Does this mean that the UPA-7 is going to be discontinued? Or does this mean you have a bunch of UPA-7s on the boat from China and you are making room in the warehouse? PS Any further word on the features/photos of the XSP-1 and the XMC-1? Many inquiring minds need to know. ;D

I'm going to guess that being a close out it means that they are going to discontinue that particular amp. But, I could be wrong

It seems like, when an amp gets noticed as superior, it is discontinued. Just an observation. I guess I would like to see the amp continued because it is so good.

If they don't bring it out soon I might just use it on other things!

stiehl11...don't make any abrupt decisions! As a safeguard against that, just send me the cash, and I will take really good care of it for you while you wait on what you want.
Mark (PS: I am hoping that some exciting news is ahead...could be soon for any of those!)

One thing they mentioned was that for the hobbist (like ourselves) we're more likely to purchase 5+2 channel amps where the CI market goes for 7 channel amps. If you remember the Emo-Pro line, they had amps like that. Maybe an Emotiva variant will soon be replacing the UPA-7?

I just reserved one. I'm used to being the caboose on the train. I'll bet the replacement will be a bit more than $699.

I doubt there'll be a direct replacement for an affordable 7 channel amp with the capabilities that the UPA-7 has. It will likely be a combo; 5+2, 5+2x1, 3x1+2x2... stuff like that.

I think that Emo has made a bad decision (just my opinion). The UPA 7 will be discontinued because of what? The audiophile community prefers a 5+2 amplification rather than a 7 I think that the audiophile community prefers to have excess power (more than is necessry for the rig they have). Rather than discontinuing the UPA-7, EMO should make a bigger brother amp at 250 wpc x 7. My 7 small speakers which are rated at 93dB sensitivity finds the current UPA 7 to be just right. I could replace the UPA-7 with a more powerful 7 channel power amp. I don't have cabinet space to accommodate 2 power amps. If this is the path that Emo goes, whenever I change my current 7 speakers, I can always go to ATI or Sunfire. They know how to make powerful 7 channel amps for regular enthusiasts.

I kept waiting to see a XPA-7 and am actually surprised that marketing research tells them that they need an XPR-7 at 350 watts per channel and not 200 by 7. 125 by 7 is what the top end receivers can achieve.

Dan mentioned in the podcast that the UPA-7 was discontinued because it was a poor seller. In fact I think he mentioned that the the UPA-5 and 2 sold rather poorly as well which made no sense to him because the are great amps and review quite well.
Seven channel amps sell well in the installer market, but not with enthusiasts he mentioned....

Yes, I heard that in the podcast too. Yet consumer enthusiast companies make 7 channel amps or even 8/9 channels. Onkyo, Integra, Sherbourn, Outlaw, Adcom, Anthem, Sunfire among others and you would think that there is room in this market for another 7 channel amp at 200 watts per.
Personally, I think that although they reviewed well, the spec numbers weren't up there with the XPA series. Transformer size on both the UPA 5 and 7 are smallish for the amount of all channels driven power, and to bring them to market at a lower price than the XPA series budget decisions had to be made.
What I'd consider the perfect multi-channel from Emo is one with slightly lower gain, say 29 db or so. Bigger transformer specs so the amp doesn't have to be driven to .1% to achieve rated power(Maybe classs H would take care of this). And A new design on the front display, I don't really need dancing LEDs. I'd pay more to get more.
That being said, it's obvious that Emotiva has tapped into something great and is striking a good balance between performance and value, and you certainly can't please everyone. I've purchased 3 components from them so far and I will be back for more.

If the UMC-1 could do all that the features/specs indicate, when paired with a UPA-7, would drive any and all receivers currently in the market into the dust. A UPA-7 with balanced inputs, when paired with the XMC-1 would just be out this world.
To discontinue one of their best rated/built power amp makes no sense. It's just a shame. I played my UPA-7 yesterday just about all day at an average of about 40dB with 93dB sentivity speakers and it did not even get warm to the touch.
I'm just a sound enthusiast. What the hell do I know other than to change my rig just about every 3-4 years, hoping to achieve musical nirvana. Next wholesale change is approx 15 months. I'll be looking for a 7 channel power amp. Will Emo oblige?
