Have you listened to those? They were a bit forward sounding to me, but they might work well for movies. I did not like the fiberglass enclosures, but in the right room they would probably look stunning. I doubt you can get them for $10K even used as they retail for $30K new...

I've listened to Avant Garde speakers before...but not the ones in that link. The ones I heard were at a dealer in Milwaukee 10 or more years ago. They had a big fiberglass....it looked like the horn part of a tuba on top. They were way too big and bizarre looking for my room and tastes, but they did sound pretty frickin amazing.

Yeah David I know that they were retailing for $30,000/pair at the time of their release. And no, I've never listened to them; I included them here simply because I adore their 'High Car Fast Racing End' looks more than anything. I did read some reviews years ago, and I liked them in the movie "Stealth", at Dr. Keith Orbit's mansion in Seattle! Blue color (I believe, or Black). Do you remember? ...With a Clearaudio Master Reference Turntable.

I'll take substance over style any day. I wouldn't care if the best speakers in the world looked like two lumps of melted Baby Ruths; if I could afford them I would get them.
That said: I spent a few hours listening (not looking) at speakers yesterday. Though I still say my Phase Techs will go toe to toe with the corisponding B&W speakers for less money, the B&W 800 series was bonerific! I actually prefered the 805s to the 802s that I listened to.

The 802s need a big room! ...And not only they sound good in the appropriate room, but they look gorgeous as 'wheel'! * About 806? {The time I post my post.}

It was a pretty big room that I was listening to them in. I don't have the dimensions. They did sound nice but, to my ear, the 805s sounded better. And no subs were used in the testing.

No, I didn't. I agree that the 802s are wonderful to look at. If I was going to show off I would get those to make sure I had the biggest swing in the room. Likewise I'm sure if I was trying to fill the East Room at The White House the 805s might be a bit undersized.
If it came down to getting a pair of 802s free or having to purchase the 805s on my own I would go with the 802s.

LOTR posted: >> Yeah but Andrew, those Gallo 3.5s are high end monitors that you can get for less than three grand a pair! {Audiogon...}
Then you can take the $7,000 left over and buy yourself two quality subs plus all the digital EQs you want!<<
Actually, with the Gallos, all you need to do is to purchase their Sub amp (~$600 on Audiogon) and hook it up to the second set of binding posts that are dedicated just for this purpose. This then drives the woofers' 2nd voice coils andd results in a speaker that goes cleanly down to 22Hz. I have heard them driven this way and the sound quality was absolutely amazing - truly thunderous and accurate bass was coming from those petite speakers.
Trust me on this, Anthony Gallo has created some of the finest speakers in the world. And, for the money, I honestly believe that they are among the top 4 or 5 speakers you can buy. I can tell you that I am immensely satisfied with mine, I will probably keep them for the next 15-20 years.
However, one thing that truly troubles me - the original Reference 3.0 and Reference 3.1 (the ones I have) speakers come with a 5 year parts and labor warranty. They sold for $2995/pr. directly from Gallo. The new Reference 3.5 speakers have only a 1 year parts and labor warranty and sell for $5995/pr.
95% of home speakers come with a 5 year parts and labor warranty. Only auto speakers come with a 1 year warranty. This is a serious blunder on Gallo's part.
However, it must be said that these speakers have a very good build quality. They are extremely solid and the fit and finish is second to none. I would expect the 3.5s to last just as long as the 3.0s and 3.1s. But the factory is, apparently, not willing to make that bet...

That is quite interesting info regarding the Sub amp to power the second voice coil, pretty clever! I didn't know that; thanks for sharing it! * And it is also strange, indeed, about the one year warranty!

As it turns out, I was mistaken about the Gallo warranty. The initial warranty is 1 year parts/labor. However, if you register the speakers with Gallo, they then extend the warranty to 5 years parts/labor.
Additionally, you are not required to use the Galo Sub Amp to drive the 2nd voice coil, you can use any reasonably powerful amp (100 watts+) and a crossover to drive the voice coil.

Going back to my earlier post on this thread... the Induction Dynamics allow you to either use a dedicated amp to power the massive 18 inch subs (shown in pics) or allow your 2-channel device to do it (like a normal speaker). I doubt I'll every have a pair of these monsters in my rig but I thought that was a nice touch to add to them.
