Ok, I had just enough time to run some tones through my new X-Ref 12 and here are the initial results.... "Strictly numbers" (mostly) for now. Note: I also have an SVS 16-46 for the really low stuff placed 1.5' from the corner loaded (the pic shows it prior to adjustment) and the X-Ref 12 is placed along the right hand wall, in front of the SVS. See the picture below. The "X-Ref 12" had the flattest in-room response @ 90-94.3dB between 27.5Hz -> 51.89Hz There were a couple of very slight drops +-2dB or so, during the sweeps, but nothing I was to concerned about. I recorded the highest output @ 94.3dB @ 40.34Hz. It rolled off pretty fast below 27.5, but still registered acceptable output down to the mid 20's. (Corner loading would have helped bring these numbers up, but I am striving for musicality and not just boom boom right now. ) Listened to quite a bit of music today and ended up simply turning off the SVS sub. The X-Ref 12 so far is doing exactly what I was hoping. Tight, fast impact, without the bloat. Late last night, my daughter and I started watching The Fellowship of the Ring (BD) and once again, I turned off the SVS. I doesn't dig down near as deep as my SVS, but when it hits its sweet spot (in my case) between 25Hz+- and 55Hz, it delivers! So far I am VERY happy! I am however, interested in trying out dual stacked and corner loaded (sans SVS) X-Ref 12's to see what that might do as far as digging down a bit deeper and therefore, lengthening and flattening out my room's response. I am still thinking about that one..... (It's hard for me to think of parting with my SVS.) It's the ONE thing in my system that has remained a constant over the past 5 years. More later....

That's an awesome post! Thanks for sharing. I am also really interested in buying this subwoofer within the next couple of months and everyone who shares a little of their experiences help alot. Bass responses down to the mid 20's would be sufficient for me. Just a quick nooby question, are the decibel measurements above @ 1w/1m? Thanks.

To be completely honest with you, I started to take more detailed measurements from my standard listening chair, but after repeated attempts to keep the kids from running in and out, I gave up and set up my meter and tripod +-3' away from the front of the sub and 2' from the floor to help keep out external noises.
I simply ran the tones from this position and recorded my findings.
I hope that helps.
By the way, I think the short answer to your question is yes. :-)

I am very happy with mine too. I am pairing it with an Ultra 12 and was able to get the results shown below using REW, a calibrated CM-140 SPL, and Behringer FDP. I have the crossover bypassed in the XREF12 and at Big Dan's suggestion at Emofest, set the Ultra's crossover to 50Hz. Crossovers in the UMC are set to 80Hz

Thanks! Just got it used a couple weeks back from a local store. I traded in my elec. guitar I never really played for it. I have played bass for many, many years and wanted to try learning to play a six string, but ended up really missing my bass.

But still undecided if I will leave the sub at that setting or bump it back up to 120Hz. Gotcha and thanks. Just ordered 2 X-ref 12's for my room. Most likely it won't be enough, but it will put me off till the 15's become available.

You may be surprised... that's what i'm hoping for, and my goal is to attain about 20hz. If they meet my needs, i would only add another 15 for the rear and be content with the two for the fronts.

But still undecided if I will leave the sub at that setting or bump it back up to 120Hz. George With the ERT-8.3 speakers handling the FR and FL channels I would be inclined to run the UMC-1's xover at 50 Hz to 70 Hz. With those dual 8" drivers, it has very strong output in the mid to upper bass range. Depending upon the size and the acoustical response properties of your listening room, you might want to play with overlapping the HP and LP xover points and slope to obtain the smoothest integration of your sub woofers.

Wow you have some very nice gear there I am thinking about getting the X-ref12 as well, from your review it sounds like it holds it own without the SVS. You had mentioned corner loading the sub, do you think you would loose any detail (sorry I don't know the right terminology) I am only going to be using one sub in my room and I'm hoping the Emotiva is the way to go.

Thanks, roadrunner. I'll give that a shot the next time I break out REW etc. Althought the specs for the 8.3's say 45Hz +/- 2db, I believe they might be a bit better than that. I already have the Ultra's internal crossover set to 50 but with the XRef's bypassed.
