This is the debut album for Split Enz and some of the 10 tracks on this album were remastered and recorded on the 1975 "Second Thoughts" release. Second Thoughts and Mental Notes are gems. This one has much more guitar work but is still a very technical work with many changing parts in the composition. I am not sure why the Track "Maybe" was not a hit as it was more simple and straight forward than tracks like "Stranger than Fiction". Absolutely outstanding work in my view and not mainstream material at all. I do think given all the works I see posted on this thread that we are not mainstream listeners anyway as there is much appreciated by me diversity in our tastes. roo rating: A+ New Zealand radio did a DVD documentary on the band that continues to be the pride in this part of the country. Some of Phil Judd's paintings including the cover painting he did for Mental Notes is owned by one of the New Zealand premier museums. www.radionz.co.nz/national/documentaries/enzologyHere is a grainy video of the "Maybe" recording from the era with Phil Judd on lead vocals and support from Tim Finn. It is old vintage from the Australian TV live broadcast in 1975 where Black and White was the standard transmission and some of the original transfer errors a little bit but gives you the idea. The version on the CD is great!

Metallica- Death Magnetic... for about 7 min. I had heard people say that the "mastering" of this cd was terrible. When listening to it through my Denon 2808 it didn't sound great but still "listenable". Now with the UPA-1s in the mix, I see what people were complaining about. Just terrible, everything is jumbled together, no depth at all. It sounds good in my Jeep. I guess it stays there.

It was better than they have been in awhile (IMO). Another one that sounded compressed was Heaven and Hell (band, not the original Black Sabbath album). Doug

It matters not to me where one finds their source of inspiration and for Jars of Clay it is their faith. The first 9 of the 11 tracks are great with solid composition and really good vocal work. I have not spun this one in over 8 or more years and did enjoy it. roo rating: B- I did notice in the credits that this was partially recorded at Secret Sound in Franklin Tn.

Iron and Wine, fairly mellow stuff and I don't know I have tried a few times and it just does not do it for me! The roo ratings are not based on mass appeal just my own personal appreciation for the musical work! roo rating; C
