Just hooked up my x-ref 10 and loving it after minor adjustments (adjusted to match Audioholics EQ settings). I have my Integra 7.8 set to +2 dB on the LFE and running the x-ref at between -8 and -2dB for the most part. What do others run it at (just curious)?
Problem: getting a very loud, wall shaking, weird subterranean low (okay maybe just between 30 and 70hz but LOUD) voooooooom signal/test tone type sound when it goes from auto off to on or just turning on from an off position. Has done this 3 or 4 times now.
Thought maybe it was connections. I checked cables, tight. I am using an RCA from receiver to Y-adapter to L/R RCA on sub. Plugged directly into wall. Same outlet as surge protector with rest of equipment. Overload on circuit a possible problem? Interference from components? Just guessing here, please help.
I love the sub, but trying to determine if this is the sub and if I need to exchange before initial 30 days is up.
Thanks. B

First, does the tone happen when no cables are connected and you turn the power on? If so, then call!!

My first reaction was that it had to be an loose interconnect but you've already eliminated that as the culprit. With my dual x-ref 12s and the connections tight, I have not experienced what you describe above except when the RCA became loose. Q1: What receiver are you using? Not implying this is a cause, just curious. Q2: Remove the y-adapter from the chain and connect the sub to the receiver with a single RCA. Does the subterranean noise still present itself? Keep us posted.

does the tone happen when no cables are connected and you turn the power on? If so, then call!! If this is true, then I agree, you should call Emotiva for advice. If the sound only presents when the connections are added, then see what happens when you remove the splitter from the connection.

Turns out it was the use of a y adapter between the receiver and sub (RCAs). I have often read in forums that using a y improves sub response/output but Emotiva declares the L/R rcas on teh x-ref subs are summed and so there is no point in using a Y. Taking it out of the chain eliminated the problem. Thank goodness. Thanks for your responses. Happy Ending. Bass. Bass. Bass.

Cool... glad it worked out. I too have removed the y-splitters from the chain.

So I've just received my x10 and wanted to know if I should be running 1 RCA or 2 RCA. Diagram shows 2, but this poster says 1...

Yes they do have the balanced input, but as far as I had read my UMC-1 XLR out was not balanced... besides, I don't have the XLR cable. Bought the xref used and it only came with the power cable. Anyway, I see now that the UMC-1 has only single RCA out for the sub, so this thread does answer my question.
