Well I surely love mine...!!!
If you're a music lover first, these subs are fantastic. For what they lack on the HT side (which isn't much), an inexpensive tactile transducer or two can more than make up for. The absolute best of both worlds IMHO...
The X-Refs take a lot of "heat" on another forum. I don't quite understand why, but that's just me... ;D

You have to take these 'holics video reviews with grain of salt so to speak. They seldom measure anything, and its no secret for their affection with Emo products.. :-)
The UMC-1 vid review was a not much of a review either...

That's a complete waste of time "review." It actually seems to be a video review which is their "first look" review, which is not really a full review at all with test measurements but just repeats the manufacturers specs. The "review" on the sound was it sounded "Freaking. Awesome." Andrew Gash's video review was neither informative nor funny IMO. He told me nothing I didn't already know from reading the info on this sub plus the owner's manual at Emotiva.com. His implication that the X-Ref 12 Sub was shaking the foundation at 10Hz at reference levels was absurd. "This sequence is known to have powerful bass that goes down to under 10Hz. The Emotiva cranked out the low frequency like the rocket was attempting to life off from my roof. Dishes rattled, neighbors called, my couch vibrated 6 inches to the left. Good times..." The actual measurements by Audioholics (see below) showed the sub at 81dB's at 20Hz (down 25.6dB's at 20Hz from the 50Hz and 80Hz levels of about 107.7dB's). The Outlaw LFM-1 EX also tested by Audioholics and $50 less produced 102.1 at 20Hz, and about 113dB's at 50Hz and 80Hz. it also produced 16.5dB's higher output at 16Hz than the X-Ref 12 produced at 20Hz. Now I know the LFM-1 EX is a "refrigerator size" sub as Dan would call them and it does not have the great DSP feature with 2 band para EQ. Don't get me wrong, I'm a strong fan of Emotiva (aka fan-boy). I think the Emo X-Ref12 sub is a very high quality sub and great performer within its design limitations. From my reading it is excellent on music and good on movies within reasonable levels. It relatively small size will appeal to many buyers. The dual para EQ's are a feature I wish all subs had for those who don't own an exterior EQ like the SMS-1. But to imply in a video review that is will shake the foundations of your house at reference levels down to the 10Hz level is simply irresponsible. Mr. Gash is a guy who should be called a fan-boy. The first look review articles are OK to give us a heads up about an upcoming product release. But this type of over-hyped BS is uncalled for by a reputable site like Audioholics. They really do a great job on their "regular reviews." Here is the actual review on the Emo X-Ref 12 sub from December 04, 2011 at Audioholics: www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/subwoofers/x-ref-12

I think the Emo X-Ref12 sub is a very high quality sub and great performer within its design limitations. From my reading it is excellent on music and good on movies within reasonable levels. This is exactly correct chuckie. Take it from a person who owns a pair. I've certainly owned better performing subs primarily for HT usage, but for music (which is "my" biggest interest), I've never owned better. Both Dan and Lonnie have made statements in the past, that "they" themselves are music lovers and that the accurate reproduction of music drives their designs. That philosophy is very apparent, again, with the X-Ref subs. The X-Refs are "adequate" subs for HT and a great deal of buyers (including myself) would be perfectly happy with them. Music, on the other hand, is absolutely where they shine and the absolute reason that I own them. I do agree that the "video review" is a bit over the top and reminds me more of an infomercial than a legitimate review.
