I have a mid-nineties vintage B&W THX Cinema Series speaker system with two PC-8 passive subwoofers. One of them is now making loud cracking noises during intense movie scenes. I think that subwoofer must be on its way out. I am considering purchasing one or two XREF-12 subwoofers. I listen/watch about equally classical music and movies. Would the XREF-12 be a good choice? I noticed that there are XLR balanced inputs and outputs on these speakers. Is the output to daisy chain to a second subwoofer, or is it for some other purpose?
Thanks,
Jack

I am really pleased with my X-Ref12 which I use with an Ultra 12.

The Emo subs are very good, even excellent for music, but you may need to use a second sub if you have a large listening room.

I received my new X-REF 12 last night. Unfortunately the display does not work on it, so I can't do anything with it. What a disappointment. I am calling Emo-Tech this morning to return it for replacement/repair.

I really like the way my X-Ref 12 performs. Very musical and provides deep strong bass during movies. Of course I am still supplementing it with my B & W ASW 600 so that may be why I am satisfied. I will purchase an additional sub in the future to replace the B & W. It is not the ultimate sub, it does not annoy my neighbors and it does not crack the plaster on my walls and ceilings. All of those are good things.

Finally received my replacement XREF-12 and it is magnificent! I heard bass I have never heard before with my music. Will try it out on a movie this morning. I love it!
