Hi everyone, I need Help Picking Front floorstanding Speakers. I have a 7.1 system with 35 year old front speakers. Using the UMC-1 and UPA-7. I would like a full range 3 way speaker under $1500, $1000 would better. I have read up on the Polk RTI 9 and 7 speakers. My town has no audio stores. I have no idea if the UPA-7 has enough power to run these speakers or even the ERT 8.3's. I like GOOD BASE and crisp highs. I do have a Klipsch KSW-15 for the sub. But I think a good front would be better with music. All help is welcome!!
Thanks,
Steve

ERT 8.3s will not leave you wanting. However since you already have a sub, you could go for 6.3s and that would make for a sweet sounding setup.
I know you said you wanted floor standers. But are stands really out of the question?

I've had the RTi A7s and while they are good, I like my 8.3s better. The Polks are a bit more forward but I prefer the smoother sound of the Emos. But don't take that to mean they're lacking in the high end. The bottom end is tighter and they perform better than their 45Hz spec implies. I often use them without the use of a sub when listening to two channel music. At the current prices, they are a much better value IMHO.

Does the UPA-7 have enough power to drive the ERT 8,3's??

Steve with the budget you have established, your best choices, if buying new, would have to be:
1. Emotiva ERT-8.3 towers 2. Emotiva ERM-6.3 LCR with a musical sub woofer 3. Mirage OMD 15
The Mirage has a titanium tweeter that some people find a little too forward. Take that into consideration when evaluating your room's acoustic properties and your personal tastes with treble frequencies.
All of the above are capable of providing quite exceptional sound quality and have huge Bang for the Buck. All of the above also have user reviews on this board for you to peruse. Happy hunting.
Steve, yes the UPA-7 can drive the Emotiva speakers with no trouble. If you have a huge listening room and like to play your music extremely loud you might wish to buy a more powerful amp, but for most rooms the UPA-7 will perform very well.

I should have mention that me listing area is a great room design with an open kitchen behind it. The great room is 22' x 22' x 10' with an additional 12' for the kitchen.
Thanks for all the help!!

Hi Steve, As you know there is no right answer to your question. There are so many choices but ultimately you and your ears will find the right match. I think these represent some of the best values in speakers.. www.aperionaudio.com/catalog/Verus-Speaker-Family,89.aspx Welcome and good luck!

Axiom audio M80's v3. Goes down to the 30 hz region +/-3db. +/- 1.5 db in most of the listening area. Check out their frequency graphs. Useable output at 25 hz. Has 4 tweeters per pair. and useable output down to 25 hz. It's an efficient 4 ohm speaker. Won't leave you wanting for highs or unadulterated POWER through the UPA's.

I will second the PSB,KEF, and Axiom recommendations and also throw Paradigm into the ring. With PSB and Paradigm being my favorite for the price although the axiom m-80's are truly bad ass. Check out DMC electronics online for smoking deals on b stock psb speakers!

For floor standers I would recommend Phase Technology's PC-9 series. Brand new out of the box the 9.5s might be a bit higher than you want to spend unless you work a sweetheart deal. If you want to venture into the used market there are used PC-9.1 on both eBay and Audiogon. Good tight bass and clear (not horn tweeter clear) highs. I highly recommend them.

Don't you just love those questions with only one black and white answer?? HA!!! ;D
Or the ones with NO/ALL correct answers......... ;D
All of the suggestions are great. I have the Axiom M80 v3 and they are superb. I also like the Aperions although I haven't actually heard them.

I have the original Aperion 633T Towers in my HT. Still very happy with the original but the new Verus Grand is nothing short of impressive for the money. Good luck in your hunt. Since you cannot audition much of anything locally I would stick to something you can at least do an in home demo with the option to return. I am guessing not many of the Grand's ever get sent back though.

The best way to get the best speakers is to do lots of auditioning. Sometimes this will mean you must take a couple hour drive in order to get to do that but it is worth it and it is allot of fun!! I will say all the speakers mentioned are a great starting point for the OP.

Oh and one more item. Although I do own some Emotiva equipment I am not and expert especially with regard to the model numbers. Each time someone mentions XPA1, XDA5 or whatever I have to go and cross-reference just what the specs are. So when you ask the question of what speakers will go with a UMC-1 and a UPA-7 you will likely only get answers from those who have memorized the specifications for each model...and then may know something of speakers...If you post your specifications then each reader may ad something.

I'm with Roadrunner and Hemster on this one, as I have the ERT 8.3's and they are very, very, very nice and will mate well with your equipment, also the ERM 6.3 as a center. Plus you get that famous five year warranty.
