Auto Sensing (On/Off) - To use or not?

Hi,

I'm looking to get some sound advice (no pun intended) from those in the scene. So I've been told by Ed Frias (the guy who modifies X-overs for BC Venturi speakers, someone also in the industry), that for subwoofers, the auto on/off should NOT be used. It will eventually burn out, and so basically to keep the sub either on or off when not in use.

What has everyone's experience here been, esp with emotiva equipment? The equipment in question is the Ultra - 12.

Never had a problem using this feature with any sub I have ever owned.

No problems here. My Phase Tech sub hasn't been "off" in 7 years.

I've never used anything but the Auto on feature and never had a problem. Thats what they're designed to do. (Knocking on wood)

All due respect to Ed Frias, but he's incorrect. Well, exceopt maybe for BIC speakers, I don't know how those are made these days.

I've been turning it on and off this whole time, and yes it is very annoying indeed. Sometimes I even forget and leave it on for a while, just another "hassle" that can now be removed.

BTW ERT 8.3 just arrived, currently letting it break in, so excited =)
