Hi guy's, Well, we fixed the UPA-500 page and included images from the production product (originally we used a prototype image) and updated the specifications to more closely match our other amplifiers. As you will see the UPA-500 is no slouch.
Try it, you'll like it! Cheers, Big Dan

Just looked at the manual. What a great feature. Might not have to tape my power button any more. "Stealth mode (status LEDs and Standby button halo lighting can be switched off)" It looks like Emotiva has been listening to those owners who have complained about the "blue laser" ...err LEDs on the front panel. ;D ;D Dan, will you be placing the Audio Precision test data on the Product Page later today? A number of Lounge members have been chomping at the bit to read the performance benchmarks. Several have said they are waiting for the AP test data before placing their orders. Hint, hint. ;D I like what you have done to update the Product Page. Looks much more impressive. Great job.

I'm somewhat confused about the specs and I am hoping some of the amplifier gurus on this forum can help me understand this better. When I first looked at the pictures of the UPA-500 I was making some assumptions on the power supply of the unit, since the specs were not yet released. The back said 450W max, so I assumed this meant approx a 350-400VA transformer. The specs list 0.85kVA. Aren't these two things related? Again I am not an expert so I am wondering if I am off track in my assumption. Can the transformer be bigger than the Max power rating? I am also confused by the 45,000 uF per supply rail. I see 4-10000uf caps in the picture. Does this mean each rail shares these caps? Sorry for the dumb questions just trying to understand better. Not dumb at all. All good questions.

At 399 and 30 days to try, why not? Some video cards cost more. Wow, that's a good point about video cards. Really puts it into perspective. Pretty darn amazing if you ask me. Yeah, I just ordered a HD7950.

Yeah, I am now officially impressed with the new amp, and would consider it for my bedroom system.

I would probably buy one if I didn't just buy a couple of used UPA-2s and a new UPA-1. I have no need or room for any more amps. I might take a look at the UMC-2 if it ever becomes available.

For now I've decided not to consider it for my bedroom. My 4.0 system can easily be run by a new integrated amp from cambridge.

No, the model has two sets of speaker outputs for an A and B pair which can be run at the same time as my Onkyo receiver does. If I bought the UPA-500 I'd then also have to buy a pre amp. With the Cambridge I'm done at the 299 mark.

The stealth mode is great addition. I wonder how difficult it would be to change the LEDs on the new UMC-200 to white. I personally like the blue, but it does stand out like a sore thumb in a theater filled with white LED.
The room correction software is also of strong interest.

How is the UPA-500 for a whole house audio setup?
I'll probably have 10 speakers scattered through my house for music so I think 2 UPA-500s would be perfect. Speakers are nothing special, just some Monoprice in ceiling speakers but could upgrade 1 day.

Have i just got blind, or have Emotiva removed the size of the transformer from the productpage? shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/upa500After the page was updated with specs and pictures they put up that it had a 0,85KVA transformer - But now its only mentioning 40 000 uF capacitance :-|

...UPA-500 has 40,000 uF of storage capacitance... And, just so folks can understand what a really massive, audiophile-grade amp can do, the Butler Monad amp has 2,000,000 uF of capacitance, 50x the UPA-500's. That is an incredibly large number. And why is capacitance important? Think of capacitance as a storage battery that stores power produced by the transformer. The more capacitance you have, up to a point of course, the more "battery backup" you have for times when the amps are heavily loaded and need power. If you drain the capacitors of the power, your amps will not be able to drive the speakers and the system falls on its face. Granted, the Monad is an extreme example. But, generally, more capacitance is A Good Thing (tm)... Butler Monad: butleraudio.com/esoteric.php-RW- Note helpful response and link...

My guess is, it was removed because it does not have an 850va transformer. Maybe 400 The owners manual is just a copy of what was on the old product page. Don't be surprised if the manual is updated in the near future as well.

Well, I can tell you that if I bought a product that did not have the specified transformer in it and had one of much lesser value, I would be returning it promptly and would probably never buy another piece from that mfgr. Emo has been bad about providing *complete* specs, but I'm not aware that they have published un-true specs...
