On another forum they suspect that the XPA-1 is now discontinued, because when you bring up the XPA-1 page, it says, "unavailable". I'm hoping they're wrong, any thoughts?

They more than likely just ran out. When the next shipment arrives I bet you'll see that change.

What has me wondering is that usually when a component is out of stock, they say when it'll be shipping again. Probably just an error on their part?

Maybe they don't have a confirmed shipping date yet. I would think that they'd have some for Emofest.

The price differential will be the biggest factor in deciding between the XPA-1 and XPR-1.
Im not sure if you can draw parallels from this, but the XPR-5 is more than twice the price of the XPA-5. At this multiple, I will be definately keeping my pair of XPA-1's.
I know there was a thread a couple of years ago estimating the XPR-1 to come in about $1,299 but I'm certain that it will come in much higher than this.

It will be great if the XPR1 can out perform the XPA1 at the latter's working range... i doubt so, but its still unclear at this stage.. things I can think off that MAY provide improvements over the XPA1 are higher current, higher damping factor, better grade connectors, more watts in class A, better vibration control

About 3 weeks ago, Emotiva told me early next year for the XPR-1. The XPR-2 should still hit before the end of this year.

Oh man, I am really looking forward for the baby brother in the Differential Reference line! The XPR-1 will be a "bigger brother" to the current XPA-1. It is the little brother, but he trained with Chuck Norris since he was 2. ;D Doug
