New user and having trouble getting 192 bit depth to play on the Dac-1. Using a macbook and Jriver. When I play a 192 file on Jriver it imports it as 192 but then resamples it to 96. I've spent hours trying to correct this but no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have everything uncheck in Jriver output options. Could it be problem with the Dac-1? On my Macbook pro Audio Midi only goes as high as 96 bit rate. Does that mean that I can not play 192 Flack files on this computer? How do you have your DC-1 connected to your laptop? Via USB or optical? If optical, I think Macs cap out at 96 on that particular connection.

Oh, you are in for a treat! Hey Bill, I followed your review of the DC-1 vs the Oppo 105 and your opinion was a big factor in my decision to pull the trigger on the DC-1! Thanks for putting the effort to post your experience with it

O.K. After three hours I think I have it figured out. One problem is that I find Jriver produces a great sound but is so buggy that it drives me nuts. I have gotten the system to play 192 using USB. It will not play 192 using Toslink....only 96. I believe, but do not know, that on my Macbook Pro late 2008, running 10.91, the headphone/optical out jack tops out at 96. I am only able to get 192 with USB, but to my ears, I like the sound better from optical rather then USB. Is there no way to get Optical 192 out of a Mac? Anyway, my first post on the Emotiva web site and I am impressed by the quick, plentiful and enlightened response. Blown away by the sweet sound of the DAC except for one serious problem....I keep falling asleep to the smooth and mellow sound.

At some point, the Mac OSX was updated for 192khz audio, so that's why the Mavericks first step....... That's interesting, because I was in the Apple store a few weeks ago, and I remember a salesman telling me that the Mac Mini only went to 44. I thought he was wrong and showed him on Audio Midi that it went to 96. But there was no 192. It would be nice if we could get 192 on optical as I like the sound better the USB

Okay, the 2009 Mac mini that I use as my main music machine MIDI shows 96 kHz max from the internal output. However, I have the Weiss DAC2 via Firewire connected to it and this shows a maximum of 192 kHz. The Amarra software auto-changes to the correct setting. I have yet to set-up my DC-1 that came in last week with my 2007 office iMac (OSX 10.6.8) to see if I can get it further than 96 kHz with USB or optical, but I doubt it.

I can confirm that I run Audirvana on my 2011 Mac Mini (OS X "Mavericks") and have no problem sending any of the formats supported by my DC-1 via USB. I cannot confirm the Toslink data support as I don't use it. On a side note, if you desire the sonic quality of Amarra, but are turned off by the high price, you owe it to yourself to try Audirvana. I've tried both and "bought" Audirvana...

My newly DC-1 is connected with Windows 7 via USB, then DC-1 output to an integrated ampifier. Do I need to turn the volume on FULLY in Windows and adjust the volume knob on DC-1?
I use JRiver Media Center 19.

Also, if I purchase one license for one Mac, will I be allowed to use it on other Macs, or even ios products?

Also, if I purchase one license for one Mac, will I be allowed to use it on other Macs, or even ios products? I have no experience with JRiver, so I'm not qualified to make an accurate comparison. Audirvana is a Mac OS based "jukebox" player which places an emphasis on both superlative sound quality and "true" bit perfect playback by totally bypassing Apple's Core Audio features. Here's a link to the Audirvana website where you might find the answer to your questions. Click here to go to AudirvanaAs far as the license, yes, you are allowed to install and run Audirvana on another Mac that you own, you're just not allowed to run them concurrently. iOS is not supported other than the ability to use the Apple "Remote" app to control playback through the iTunes library (using the iTunes integration mode). Hope this helps…..

I use JRiver Media Center 19. I would think that you would want to set the PC volume fully up (100) to avoid truncation of the data (sound cards use a digital volume control). You will also want to set the DC-1 to a "fixed" output level (see the User Manual) and use the volume control on your integrated amp as the only source for volume level. Hope this helps…

So use USB if you have higher sampled music.

Has anyone compared the DC-1 headphone out to the USP-1 headphone out? I have not compared the HP out on the DC=1 with the HP out on the USP-1, but I did compare it to the onw on the XSP-1, and it was an immediate and obvious improvement in every way. Prior to that I had actually been using the HP out on the XSP-1 quite a bit, and found it to be just fine on my low impedance cans. However, as soon as I A/B'd it with the DC-1, I could tell within seconds the DC-1 headamp was was FAR superior. In fact, I liked it so much, it made me truly enjoy my Grado SR80i cans in a way I never thought I would. Prior to the DC-1, my Senn HD-598s had become my "go to" headphones. The DC-1 made my Grados become my "go to" headphones. FWIW. I know that is not the exact comparison you were looking for, and I don't know if the USP-1 and XSP-1 share the same headamp circuitry, but I thought I would toss this out here, if it can help in any way. Good luck!
