When I turn on my XREF 12, the green light works for a few seconds and then it turns off, leaving the red (inactive) light on. So, the subwoofer works for a few seconds and then shuts down. This happens with both balanced and unbalanced inputs. Is there anything i can do, or do I need to return the unit to Emotiva?

The output to the XREF is coming from a UMC-1. Using the remote, I upped the subwoofer output to +10.0, but still no luck. Is there another way to vary the output?

Couple of things - (1) What is the volume level on the Xref-12? Is it set at a high enough gain? And (2) Are you sure the subwoofer output on the UMC-1 is configured correctly and is working? Try setting your crossovers for the left or right main speaker on the UMC-1 real low and then connect the left or right main output to the sub and see if you can hear anything.

I talked with Emotiva support. They were very helpful and determined that the problem is with the plate amplifier. I will ship the amplifier back for repair/replacement. I was very pleased with their prompt assistance!

I was very pleased with their prompt assistance! Dropped mine off today for the very same issue. Was told it would be repaired maybe by tomorrow and then shipped by end of week, but it is a holiday week so I won't hold my breath. Purchased it almost exactly one year ago to this very day. I am very pleased with the warranty just hope this does not become a continuing issue.

Replacing the plate amp takes about 30 minutes. Not fun but not a biggie either. Emo will ship the plate amp promptly.

Interesting, I had my Ultra 12 go bad and was told I'd have to ship the entire sub back to Emo in an original box in order to get the warranty covered. I didn't have the box, no place to store it and was told I'd have to buy their box they wouldn't accept the unit any other way. Once I purchased a box and shipping of the entire unit back I'd have almost half again invested in a unit I don't know how long it would last, the one I wanted repaired is the second of two I bought the first one was bad in about a week so I just got my money back. So I just quit buying or recommending anything by Emo.
"Your sub is still under warranty, the warranty expires 7/6/2015. If you would like, you can send your unit in for repair so a tech could take a look at the unit and fix what needs to be fixed. If you would like to send the unit in to be looked at, you can purchase box and packing for the sub; the cost is $35, shipped to your door.
Please let me know if you would like to send the unit in and I can provide you with an RMA number for the repair."
Thank you, Caitlyn Moyer
There was another email where I asked if I could just switch the amp or ship in another box but can't find that one right now. Seemed ridiculous to ship the entire sub when there's basically two things to go bad, either the driver or the amp and I don't see how it could be the driver. Emotiva Audio Corporation

Emo authorized me to remove the plate amplifier and ship it back to them. It weighed heckuva lot less than shipping the whole unit. It is supposed to arrive at Emotiva on Monday.

Received shipment notification tonight, shipped from Franklin today due at my house tomorrow. Holidays slowed them down according to an email I received.

I got my plate amplifier back today and reinstalled it in my XREF-12. It worked for a few minutes and then went into standby mode again! This is really frustrating. After I turn the subwoofer off long enough for the red light to go out, it will work for 30 secs to a minute or two before it goes back into standby mode. Could it be my UMC-1? How do I determine what firmware version I have? I am at a loss here and need help.

From the UMC-1 update thread: To check the current firmware level of your UMC-1, on your remote, push Mute, then Status, then Vol+ (Volume Up). The firmware level will display on the LCD panel on the front of the UMC-1. It does sound like your sub is not getting a signal and going into standby, do you hear sound from it or just see the light on. Is it possible to switch it to On instead of Auto?
