I ordered my first Emo gear in late Nov....a UMC-1 and a UPA-500. I finally unboxed them on Thursday, as I took the week off to finish my theater install. There's static in Ch 1 at startup. I've swapped RCA channels around, swapped speaker leads and the noise stays put in Ch 1. After 5-10 min, it goes away but then randomly comes back. Perhaps a cold solder joint?
I emailed EMO on Thurs about the issue (and the fact I couldn't find my 40% upgrade card). I did get an email back but the answer was focused on where to find the upgrade card not the noise issue. Hopefully, I'll get someone on the phone tomorrow.
What's teh normal procedure? Will Emo swap it for me or do I have to take the system down and send it back for repair? Took me a year to get this theater done....it would be a shame to have to have it offline for awhile.

I have no idea. But you metioned the hiss was intermitten after start up. Do you happen to have a refrigerator, airconditioner, or a dimmer switch active during those times?

Hello, I believe if the product is still within the 30 day return window a new unit would be shipped out to you with a return shipping label to return problem unit.If the unit is out of the 30 day window sending the unit in for repair would be the solution. The good thing is that Emotiva will take care of you either way.

Yes, no (well, heat is on) and no. The fridge is upstairs on a different circuit and the HVAC is nearby, also on its own circuit. If the amp is picking up noise from that, why only one channel? Odd.

Sounds like your first instinct is right. It probably is somehow defective in construction. Emotiva doesn't unbox every product they receive from the factory and ops check it. Economically they don't need to, as their quality control is very high. But when you're the one that gets the abnormality, it's your world that suffers.
So, call Emotiva's service department and be amazed at how well and quickly that they will take care of you. And then don't be shy telling us all about it!

I was finally able to call this morning as they didn't respond to my email from last week. I was just out of the 30 days so repair was first suggested. Since this item was DOA and a Christmas gift, I asked about doing an exchange instead as I really didn't want to be down for an extended period of time (I started this build LAST Christmas and was using an old Yamaha receiver and spent all last week getting the rest of the install done). So, a new one is on the way; it didn't take too much insisting on my part and it was the "right" thing for Emo to do. Consider me happy. Most importantly, I don't have to explain to the main user of the theater why she can't watch cartoons on the 110" TV. :-D
