Hello everyone, my name is Andre. I reside in New Brunswick Canada, where the trees are still leafless on the 1st of May. The buds aren't even out yet.LOL. Well, I've been checking out Emo gear for a couple of years now, on and off, and at first the prices almost sounded too good to be true. Having had quite a few different stereo and ht rigs, I feel like I've been getting ripped off price wise for many years now. From my own first stereo system at the age of 16, which consisted of the absolute top of the line FISHER 150 watts per, with the 15" speakers, and lets not forget the remote control that I had to put on my lap to operate with 128 buttons on it.LOL. Anyways, this has been my current rig for a few years now. A PIONEER VSX-1015 RECEIVER 120 WATTS X 7 channels, a PIONEER BDP-51 FD BLU-RAY, a HARMON KARDON FL-8385 CD PLAYER WITH HDCD, a CARVER TX-10 TUNER for a better FM quality from the 80s, a NUFORCE ICON HDP headphone amp and dac/pre amp, a pair of PARADIGM MONITOR 7 V5 fronts, a matching PARADIGM CC-370 3 WAY CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER, a pair of PARADIGM ATOM MONITOR V5s for the rears, and a PARADIGM PDR-10 V3 SUB to round the speaker system out, this audio equipment is matted to a LG 47" LCD and a brand new ROGERS HI DEF DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS CABLE/PVR BOX, a MONSTER POWER HTS-3500 and a MONSTER POWER HTS-1600 to plug everything into. I also have my main set of cans BEYERDYNAMIC DT-990 250 Ohms and various other SENNHEISER and AUDIO TECHNICA headphones.I have my mains connected with true 10 Ga. IMPACT ACOUSTICS SONIC WAVE speaker wires, 10ft pair, as well as the center channel with an identical single wire. My RCA WIRES ARE AUDIOQUEST EMERALD AND PEARL, AND I ALSO HAVE A PAIR OF KIMBER CABLE HERO. Now you know exactly what I have to work with. I didn't list most of the equipment I have to show-off, the equipment is actually mid line run of the mill stuff. I listed the individual components so when we talk about adding some EMOTIVA QUALITY COMPONENTS, you will know exacltly what's up. Now onto the good stuff. I was listening to some of my cds last sunday and I thought to myself " man I've hear this song and that song so many times before, and I heard so much more of my music back then". In other words, I'm hearing about 2/3 of the musical content that's actually on the cds, compared with other previous rigs I've had. That's when I went to the Emo site, and saw the UPA-200 on sale for $ 314.00. There arent a ton of reviews on this unit, but enough to get a darn good idea of what it sounds like. Well I pulled the trigger and bought one yesterday to power my main front channels. My PIONEER is rated at 120 watts, but lets be honest, it's not even apples and oranges compared to a specialist like the UPA-200 dedicated amplifier as far as I'm concerned. One thing that I do like with this PIONEER RECEIVER is that my fronts are bi-amped right now, not much difference in volume, but there is a bit more resolution and less distortion as far as my ears are telling me. I know I won't be able to bi-amp my front 2 channels any more with the UPA-200, but as far as to all the good comments you all have made about this little unit, I should get much more resolution and good clean sound out of my mains. Plus it's going to free up 4 channels from the receiver so it will only have to drive the center and rears. Hopefully giving me more dynamic range and cleaner sound from the receiver also. I'm really not worried about those things for the front 2 channels, since its a clean 125 watts and way better quality. So I'd like to thank all of you for your comments, you've been a huge factor on making up my mind for this purchase. I see a XPA-3 and a UMC-200 in my future. At that time I will have a decent pioneer receiver for sale.
By the way, does anyone know about how much time it takes to get a EMOTIVA component delivered to the east coast of Canada from when the wire transfer has been made? I would like an idea of the shipping times.
Thanks again
Andre
