Have been lurking around since last summer when I first purchased some Emotiva gear, so thought it was time to come out of the shadows and introduce myself. I've been a 2-channel music fan since the mid-70's and had always pined for something better than the big box solutions to home audio (more so in the last 15 years given the dearth of 2-channel equipment carried in these stores). Being a Stereophile subscriber, however, I was under the impression I'd need to win the lottery before I could move into something a little more substantive. Then I heard of Emotiva, and when I looked at the products, their specs and the reviews, and finally the prices, I knew this would be it. I could finally have something that I'd always wanted without selling the farm. So I ordered the USP-1 and the XPA-2 and I could not believe the difference in SQ compared to my old Onkyo receiver. Since then I've moved up to the XSP-1 (not sure what I'm going to do with the USP-1 just yet) since I wanted to take advantage of the processor loop to use my tubed headphone amp as a tube buffer. This has worked out very well, as I can take the edge off of some overly bright source material if needed by routing through the tube amp. I've just purchased the BDP-105 and will be setting it up this weekend. I'll see how it compares to the Onkyo DX-7555 CD player, which is no slouch itself.
Next up: dig out and dust off my 70's era Technics SL-3200 turntable and try out the the XSP-1's phono stage. I've got about 600 LPs that need revisiting - it's been awhile.
I enjoy the forums here for the information they provide and the general good humour.

Peter, your story sounds much like mine. I was using a 1990 Technics reciver and the speaker wire spring clips finally failed. I was on AVSForum and was reading about Emotiva. I had all kinds gear since the early 70's and did not want to spend the silly prices that most gear cost for 2 channel quality analog. I've got the usp-1, upa-2 and erc-1 and you will find that the Emotiva phono stage is excellent.
I lurked here for about five years before I joined. There are alot of sharp guys here and I try to stay out of the debates but you sure can learn alot here.
By the way I am in Atlanta also and if you want to sell the usp-1 I will ask around to see if any wants one. Whats sad for me is that most I know only want an Ipod dock or Bose wave radio.

Hello fellow axiom fan. I have the m80's myself. And the cool thing about them is that bought used they are around $650! How do you like your m22's? I heard they have a similar sound signature to the m80's.

Welcome Peter!
What part of Atlanta are you in? I have family in Dunwoody, Doraville, and Decatur. I was just there last week for a short visit.
I just got a 105 myself...have not really given it a good run yet, but I like it so far. I even already tried streaming from my NAS through it. The interface is not the best, but it worked first try w/o any reading of the manual.
See you around the forum!

Thanks for the welcome gentlemen.
garbulky - I've no experience with the M80's, but my guess looking at the specs is that they would be close to the M22's, especially mid to high frequencies. The M80's probably provide a little more on the bottom end I would expect. I did read some time ago that the M80's had a dangerous low impedance dip at some low frequencies that caused some issues with the XPA-2 going into protective shutdown at higher volumes. That would have to be fairly loud I guess.
Mike - go ahead and ask around if anyone might be interested in the USP-1. Let me know if there's any interest - I think $325 would be a fair price given it is less than a year old, although I realize I'm now up against the summer sale where a new one costs about $389. I've got the original boxes, manuals, etc., and it is in pristine condition.
Mark - I'm up north of Alpharetta in the Cumming area (that would be north of Doraville if you're not familiar). I've been listening to the BDP-105 over the weekend and find it beats out my old Onkyo DX-7555 in many ways, especially in the low-end (tighter, with more extension). I had read that it tended to be bright, but I'm not hearing it that way.
