I Onkyo TX NR808 and want to add a preamp for better sound. Wanted to know which is the better choice Emotiva UPA 700 or Sherbourn PA 7-450. New at this will upgrade my entire system as time goes on and I learn more. Thank for any advice.

Hi brianw57, welcome to the lounge.
Interesting question. There's a big difference in power and price between the two. If this is for background music then the UPA-700's 80 watts per channel could be enough. If it's for home theater, it's probably to small.
Most everyone in the lounge will ask you for information like the efficiency of your speakers and the size of your room before they would hazard an opinion. Most of the people here would say that for most critical listening purposes, the PA7-150's 150 watts are to weak.
If you haven't already, read around the lounge and consider all of the "how much power is enough" discussions.
Quality wise, you can't go wrong with any of the Emotiva, Sherbourn products.
