i heard it, saw it, touched it and almost spilled coffee on it. don't tell dan, lonnie, nick, kathy, shirley, napoleon or any body else that. i heard the xmc in the stealth display and the dirac processing in the dirac demonstration room. i have seen the level of functionality that is truly astounding. the product is exceptional. at 1999 it is a bargain and i would have to save for a while but i would still buy it. for friends and family at 1499 it is a real bargain. for those of you who are still holding 40% cards, at 1199 the product is an absolute steal. i for one am glad they have taken the time to design and build a product like this.
as for the price changes.....they do not bother me. i expect changes like this over 3 to 4 years since no business can really predict cost for anything that far in advance. no-one has been ripped off since no-one has spent a dime of their own money for it. true, setting price points and changing them multiple times doesn't help one's reputation in the public eye but no-one has been defrauded.
so.... i am anxiously waiting it's arrival and i will be thrilled to put in the system
tchaik................
btw......those who disagree with this position have made their opinions well known on the other thread, so if you have something truly new to add, knock yourself out. otherwise i would rather hear the positive voices from the forum.

Like I posted elsewhere. Those with 40% cards, they are now worth $200 more than yesterday. BTW the one complaint I do have is with your signature. lol Way too long. Almost as long as your posts.

With my upgrade card I will only have to set aside $50.00 a month extra to make up the price difference, this is not a big deal, as I have been anxiously looking forward to the XMC-1. Those of you with %25 off set aside an extra $62.50 a month and those of you first time buyers set aside an extra $84.00 a month. This is what all the fuss is about? This price increase shouldn't put the XMC-1 out of reach for anyone who wants it. There is always b-stock and people who might sell one as well. I was hoping for some more pics of it from emofest though! Anyone got any?

The price change in of itself doesn't bother me. What bothers me is they incent a certain behavior, then remove the incentive or change it once they have your money. But wait you say? They didn't take any money yet? I bought my UMC in November 2011. A 3d upgrade board was promised "in January", then a 40% off XMC, which would make it 899. But only if I bought a UMC "now, limited stock". I believe they used "invest in your future" as the tag line. Got my UMC, the 3d board vanished, never to be mentioned again. So much for the future. Or maybe they meant the XMC? After all it was coming soon at 899. And all the while they'd post screenshots of progress, and things like "it's closer!" Just to keep me from going elsewhere. , and now they jack the price $500 on the XMC and push it out another 6 months. And that's taking their word "this time" that it'll actually show up by feb 2014. At that price. Whats to keep them from delaying again? Or upping the price again? And it won't come with a "full" version of Dirac, but "don't worry, we'll sell you that if you want!" Some bargain. I feel a bit ripped off. I'm sure some others that bought the UMC at the end feel the same way. Not sure what there is to be happy about? It's pushed back, again. Price is now more. Seriously, I should feel privileged to have the opportunity to purchase one? Really? I don't mean to be negative, but in my year and a half as a customer, I don't feel like they've earned my continued business. They make some nice things, but many other companies do too. The "deal with it" comments from Emo staff in the other thread just hammered that point home. Well, I will. And someone else will be getting my business. They may not care, heck I'm just one guy. But I do have self respect and more importantly a choice. I think emo forgets that sometimes that they have to earn business. There are only so many that will buy anything with an emo label on it. Most of their potential customers are guys just like me.

You could be right, it may well be a bargain at $2K. Or it might not.
I might buy it, but I'm going to wait and see how it performs in the real world before I fork the cash over, because UMC-1.
Back in the early days of having its predecessor, I looked at either returning it or selling it. When I factored in return freight (at twice the price that Emo sends at) and the currency movement (went from 83c to 97c in almost no time) I would have been out of pocket about $450 just by returning it. Or, I'd have had to sell it for not much less than someone could import a new one for (that exchange rate movement again!).
I'm not doing that again so I'll wait thanks, the new price only makes that decision easier.

Well said Gerald/tchaik...it's a bargain. My ONLY debate is will I take "this" bargain or the "next" one (aka, an RMC-1 or whatever they call it...).

tchaik, Thanks for posting the positive impressions you had at Emofest. Very promising for those that did not get a chance to make it. Next February is ok by me and I am also fine with the price change as the alternative would have been an XMC-0. You cannot expect a company to invest heavily in R&D and then deliver a product at a loss.
ColdFusion, I just don't get it. You bought a UMC-1 based only on the fact the it came with a discount card? This sounds like the logic my wife and daughter use when they go shopping, come home and when I ask how much did they spend today the answer is always: "There were the most excellent sales at the mall the today, we saved $500." Also, several upgrade cards have been for sale here so you could have gone that route instead.
A company raised the price of a product so you feel cheated? Really? Every company I have ever done business with raises prices as their costs increase. I wish those that are so miffed by this could at least look at it from this very simple perspective.

Every company I have ever done business with raises prices as their costs increase. I wish those that are so miffed by this could at least look at it from this very simple perspective. I never said the card was the only factor, I'm not sure why you're attempting to twist my words. The low price of the umc, plus the fact it'd be upgrade able to 3D, plus the fact that I'd get a 40% off card all contributed to the sale. And I gave up something too, all sales were final and I couldn't return the unit. Yes companies raise prices as costs increase. However, one of the main selling points of getting a close out UMC was you'd get the xmc for 899 when it came out in "a few months". No chance to ever buy it even happened before the increase. Then Emo comes out and says "get over it". And yes, I feel slighted. It's not the price increase, it's the two broken promises, but moreso the horrible attitude towards customers who weren't happy. You may have a different opinion, and that's fine. I'm not asking anyone to agree. Just explaining my point of view. It may still be a "bargain" based on the market, heck $300 is nothing in the grand scheme of things. But I won't be buying one. I can sit and give feedback on a forum, or I can vote with my wallet, which actually has a chance of being listened to.

It's pretty funny that people are in a huff over a price for something that hasn't even come out yet..... It went up $500, big deal. There are plenty of options if it has become too expensive with the price increase. I'm still not really interested in the XMC-1 as it need to be 9 channels IMO, especially at it's "new" price point. I hope the RMC-1 fixes this issue.

so this is something truly new to add? tchaik........ Sorry. You went to emofest? You re so awesome. Better? I'm not sure what you expected or why you felt the need to not be respectful. If you just want people to agree with you, what's the point of posting? Unlike some, I (thought) I gave a rational take on the other point of view. But fanboys will be fanboys. Anything other than blind allegiance will appatently not be tolerated. It's fine, its your money.

Oh I see. You're trolling.
XMC is a bargain. Anyone who disagrees with me post elsewhere. Should've seen it coming.
Ah well, maybe someone reading this will actually see the "other side".

I agree w/tchaik...let's keep THIS thread ON TOPIC to the OP's point. There is plenty of the other side about price in other threads.

Unfortunately for some it's not a $300 increase, for Aussies like me it's a whole lot more. At $899 it slips under the $1K limit for duty and GST, but at $1199 it doesn't. So that means duty at 5% plus incremental GST at 10% on the total price including freight. Similar cost multipliers probably apply to any Emotiva customers in duty and tax regimes. Then of course we are subject to exchange rate fluctuations, which at the moment for $A is not so good. As a comparison an XMC-1 at the old price & exchange rate would have cost me around $A1050 (after 40% discount). Now it's going to be around $A1750, so all you guys complaining about a $US300 price increase (after 40% discount) consider yourselves lucky you're not an O/S Emotiva customer.
Cheers Gary

Mercy...must dead horses be flogging well beyond their useful lives? I guess so... Mark Pray tell, what is the topic? My initial post gave "my" story, describing why I didn't think it was a bargain. But it's not "on topic" ? I'm not sure how it wasn't "new" as he asked for, unless someone else gave the exact same reasons as me. I don't live on these forums I check in from time to time. You just want 50 replies saying "I agree"? I'm not sure what the alternative is, if it isn't discussion on the value to people? I do value the photos/recap you posted mark. I do take your opinions with a grain of salt though (as I do everyone's).
