i heard it, saw it, touched it and almost spilled coffee on it. don't tell dan, lonnie, nick, kathy, shirley, napoleon or any body else that. i heard the xmc in the stealth display and the dirac processing in the dirac demonstration room. i have seen the level of functionality that is truly astounding. the product is exceptional. at 1999 it is a bargain and i would have to save for a while but i would still buy it. for friends and family at 1499 it is a real bargain. for those of you who are still holding 40% cards, at 1199 the product is an absolute steal. i for one am glad they have taken the time to design and build a product like this. as for the price changes.....they do not bother me. i expect changes like this over 3 to 4 years since no business can really predict cost for anything that far in advance. no-one has been ripped off since no-one has spent a dime of their own money for it. true, setting price points and changing them multiple times doesn't help one's reputation in the public eye but no-one has been defrauded. so.... i am anxiously waiting it's arrival and i will be thrilled to put in the system tchaik................ btw......those who disagree with this position have made their opinions well known on the other thread, so if you have something truly new to add, knock yourself out. otherwise i would rather hear the positive voices from the forum. Me? I ain't lettin' $300 come between me and an XMC-1.

tchaik, Thanks for posting the positive impressions you had at Emofest. Very promising for those that did not get a chance to make it. Next February is ok by me and I am also fine with the price change as the alternative would have been an XMC-0. You cannot expect a company to invest heavily in R&D and then deliver a product at a loss. ColdFusion, I just don't get it. You bought a UMC-1 based only on the fact the it came with a discount card? This sounds like the logic my wife and daughter use when they go shopping, come home and when I ask how much did they spend today the answer is always: "There were the most excellent sales at the mall the today, we saved $500." Also, several upgrade cards have been for sale here so you could have gone that route instead. A company raised the price of a product so you feel cheated? Really? Every company I have ever done business with raises prices as their costs increase. I wish those that are so miffed by this could at least look at it from this very simple perspective. I can't believe Emotiva lets people sell the upgrade cards like that. No other company I've ever heard of would allow that one! I actually never did get the physical card but I have purchased processors from Emo and was apart of the first batch of UMC-1s that shipped. I should also be on the original XMC-1 waiting list. When I called them about a year ago they said not to worry I'll get the price break when XMC-1 ships.

I couldn't believe they did either (while they did it). The new program is much more fair IMO because it actually rewards loyalty.

Did you see an ethernet port on the thing? Did they demonstrate any HTTP interface or ios/android control for it?

The title of the thread is:
XMC-1 New price is still a bargain.
Does that mean that no posts are allowed that don't agree with the OP thread title? Perhaps the title should read: XMC-1 New price is still a bargain --- positive responses only please!
Wow! As much of an Emotiva fan boy that I am, I think any thread should allow for civil and polite discussion pro or con in any thread. IMO, creating a thread that implies that any posts that are counter to the thread title are not allowed, is not the best idea at the Lounge.
PS: I do think in the end, the XMC-1 will in fact be considered by most pro reviewers to be a great bargain. But folks should still have right to politely disagree.

I think the issue is that the unit is not out and people are mad about what they should get it for. My issue is that there are no deposits on the XMC. Now if people would have put money down then that would be fair to lock in a price. Anyone that goes on cruises knows now price hikes work. You can talk about getting on the boat but until you put money down its all talk. Then if you would have put money down and had to wait you would have been mad about that. So dirc by itself eats up a lot of that up-price.

Solid state...I didn't look for one but if you look at the back panel photo in my post in the pix thread in the green room I think you can see it under the HDMI. And, even if can't see it, it must have one for Dirac and they have been running Dirac on two of them. Regarding demo's of app's...no...none done, but they did say they have the basics of a working droid app already.
Chuck...I am pretty sure that tchaik (and I) would welcome dissent in opinions in this thread. But...there is a thoroughly beaten dead horse that does not need beating again...and I think that's what tchaik was referring to in his request to not go that direction. Now...dissent of people thinking that what they heard or saw is not worth the $, or saying they need more feature or power or....whatever...for the price....that's a different topic of dissent than the one tchaik was trying to avoid.
So...I will start the dissent...I think the XMC will be well worth the price, but I am not convinced yet that it is the jump in performance over the UMC-1 I need. The RMC promises even better analog stage and DAC's. And, by the time it is out, the android controls appear likely from day 1. So, it is very likely I will wait for the next big thing after the XMC.

I get what you're saying, but there are multiple other threads debating price. I think perhaps the intent of this thread was to take it to a more constructive/informational/positive direction.. I'm not saying people shouldn't disagree, but with 2-3 other threads debating price/value, isn't that enough?

Did Dan talk about the RMC-1 at Emofest? I have not seen anything official on it for a very long time, so is it still in the pipeline? Please substantiate your comment with actual comments from someone at EMO.

So OP was asking for debate on other products on the market and value? That's not how I read it, but apologize if that's what he intended. Clearly "bargain" is going to mean different things to different people.
I'm not sure that question can be answered. Both the denon 4520 and yamaha 3020 kill the XMC on features. 3 hdmi outs vs 1. 11.2 or 9.2 processing vs 7.2. Built in amps vs no amps (well this could be a downside). Network streaming. Mobile apps. Way more connection options. Oh, and they're actually available. At the same price as the XMC (without the discount cards).
The only strikes in the XMC column are XLR outs. Maybe sound quality and maybe Dirac. No one can say for sure because no one has heard them outside a controlled Emo demo room. Or had a chance to A/B them with said products. Am I missing any strikes in the XMC column?

Unfortunately for some it's not a $300 increase, for Aussies like me it's a whole lot more. At $899 it slips under the $1K limit for duty and GST, but at $1199 it doesn't. So that means duty at 5% plus incremental GST at 10% on the total price including freight. Similar cost multipliers probably apply to any Emotiva customers in duty and tax regimes. Then of course we are subject to exchange rate fluctuations, which at the moment for $A is not so good. As a comparison an XMC-1 at the old price & exchange rate would have cost me around $A1050 (after 40% discount). Now it's going to be around $A1750, so all you guys complaining about a $US300 price increase (after 40% discount) consider yourselves lucky you're not an O/S Emotiva customer. Cheers Gary I'm curious, for Ozzies, could you guys buy it "used" and have it slip under the pricing barrier? Even if "used" was simply it being shipping to someone and then to you? i.e. not quite direct from Emo?

I think that proves my point about Emo now playing with the big boys. From what I saw this weekend, I believe Dan et al can do it but it will be a steeper climb given the close proximity in price.

Yamaha 3020 has almost any connectivity you could want except XLR out, this includes Ethernet, along with the slew of all the goodies that comes with Internet connectivity. RCA per-outs name it all for about $1500.00, $2100.00 list. Just thought you would like to know.

It's pretty funny that people are in a huff over a price for something that hasn't even come out yet..... It went up $500, big deal. There are plenty of options if it has become too expensive with the price increase. I'm still not really interested in the XMC-1 as it need to be 9 channels IMO, especially at it's "new" price point. I hope the RMC-1 fixes this issue. Well, just to nitpick a bit. It's "only $500," but that's a price increase of about 31%. That's a fairly large change in many people's book. In any case, based on past performance, I'll believe it when they are actually shipping. Until then it's a tempest in a teapot. Best,

33% actually, but who's counting?
