Setting volume for A-100 with preamp?

Nowhere in the manual does it specify what to set the A-100's volume control when hooking up to line level outs of preamp (umc-200). Set to max volume and forget it?

That is what I do with the Sherbourn version of the same, and it works fine.

That's what I assumed, just wasn't sure if this might introduce some noise like occurs with headphone outs/comp outs
