Hello, I wanted to know if anyone thinks the Erc-3 will beat the Bdp-95 in sound quality this time.I saw a ton of opinion's on this forum favoring the Bdp-95 compared to the Erc-2.The overwhelming majority picked the Bdp-95 over the Erc-2.I purchased an Oppo BDP-95 then the seller backed out.I just wanted more info before trying to find and make another deal for an Oppo BDP-95.
Thank You, dmraupp

Well. I've owned both and slightly prefer the more detailed sound of the Oppo. As for the ERC-3, no one knows yet. If the dac in the ERC-3 is better than the ERC-2, then it will be interesting. The Emotiva units offer great performance for their price.

It's hard to say since the Erc-3 isn't out. My money is on the Erc-3. It sounds like the onboard DAC should be pretty special (ala DC-1)

Thank You, dmraupp Well, is a difficult question. The oppo is a very good player but the ERC3 is EXTREMELY WELL MADE, maybe the dacs dont matter. The OPPO is a multimedia player and expensive the ERC3 is VERY GOOD for music and dac transporter.

I was one of the ones that didn't like the oppo 95 for stereo performance. I thought the ERC-1 was quite a bit better with CD playback. The oppo sounded 2 dimensional, brigh,t and lacked realism in my system. My vote goes to the ERC-3. In the movie room it blew the PS3 out of the water but just not in the stereo

The oppo sounded 2 dimensional, bright, and lacked realism in my system. My vote goes to the ERC-3. In the movie room it blew the PS3 out of the water but just not in the stereo I bought a PS3 as my first Bluray player and used it as my cd player/transport. Then I bought an OPPO 93. The improvement was so stark, that I never listened to the PS3 again. (Music or movies). Between differences in setups and personal preferences, the decision of which (the ERC-3 vs. the OPPO) is best will be personal. I'm looking forward to the contest.

Just like Keith says, the oppo with the sabre chipset really has its own sound and really does not sound like any other dacs. The DC-1 has the same chipset as the erc-3 and to me they really have a different sound than the oppo-105 that I have. To my ears it is almost apples to oranges.

I mis typed a little, I agree the oppo is better than the PS3 all around. The PS3 stays in the movie room and out of the stereo as well.

Milsap195, I would be very interested to know these two DACs compare. I now have a DC-1, but had never had the opportunity to hear Opppo's take on the Sabre 32 DAC chip. Your comments actually echo what Keith says about the Sabre chip. Very interesting. Would you mind elaborating a bit for our education?

The Oppo has a very strong emphisis on the uppper midbass and treble and a little less presence on the bass as well as a little more in your face presentation. The DC-1 has a more even sound across the frequency spectrum and is a little more laid back. I personally like both and have both hooked into my system. If I had to guess I would think that IMHO most people would prefer the DC-1's sound. This all assuming that the ERC-3 and the DC-1 sound the same.

^ Interesting, I find the Sabre Dac in the BDP-105 to be smooth and even through the entire frequency spectrum via both analog and headphone outputs.

The reason I am so curious is for two reasons. 1. the extreme popularity of the Oppo players, and 2. Oppo is going to release their own DAC & headphone amp combination, and I assume it will sound very similar to their players. Once again, your comments echo what Keith says about the Sabre 32 chip. On the other end of the specturm, Boom found the DC-1 to be bright in the treble range, and seems to love his Oppo. More proof that listening for yourself is certainly important. Thanks again. This is helpful feedback!
