i don't think xda-1 and dc-1 support DSD. you will need plug-ins like dsdiff decoder or super audio cd decoder, asio4all/wasapi and a dac that has usb input that can handle dsd files and chip which dsd ready. All I have to di install dsdiff decoder or sacd decoder on foobar and that's it? yeah, basically. actually i never tried dsd. read it on forum about it. i do have 2 DXD files (352.8 kHz / 24 bit) from 2l.no sample download which cannot play cos soundcard doesn't support it

Thanks for sharing geebo. Do I understand correctly that these only work with Oppo BDP-103 and 105 players? If so, I may be SOL with my BDP-95. They should work with any DSD player. I quickly tried them with foobar and they played fine. Audiogate is a good player/converter that's free but you must have a twitter account to use it for conversions. So you could convert them to flac or wav or mp3 if you like.

If you have an Oppo 10x series deck and you want to listen to DSD direct to anaolog with no PCM stage and your pre/pro does not support native DSD , make sure you set the HDMI Audio to OFF in the Setup menu of the Oppo and SACD to DSD. And of course, SACD Priority must be set to Multi channel or Stereo (Not CD). Then use the analog outputs of the Oppo. Otherwise, you'll probably be listening to a DSD converted to PCM signal.\
From Oppo's site:
The following settings in the player's setup menu should be used: Playback Setup - SACD Priority: set to Multi-Channel or Stereo based on your preference Audio Format Setup - HDMI Audio: set to Off (This ensures that any connected HDMI device will not cause the player to convert DSD to PCM.) Audio Format Setup - SACD Output: set to DSD

I downloaded them, thanks for the tip! And, I enjoy the music, which is great. I ended up keeping the native dsd files but also converting them to 24/96 flac files and that is how I am currently able to listen to them. Though I may try copying them to a disc and popping them in my Oppo 95 just for giggles. But the music is enjoyable and well recorded.

Regarding listening to DSD files directly with no conversion to PCM, I am posting this email from David Elias with his permission. I had a question for him regarding his offerings and one thing led to another. I gave him a link to this thread and these are his comments.
George this is very interesting.
One of my big issues (for audiophiles and non-) is that DSD is often played as PCM using the "wrong" configuration on the player be it hardware, software or a combo. I fear this is indeed the case on this thread you sent.
Everyone claims they "see" and are listening to 24/88.2 -- That is NOT DSD! That is a downsampled FLAC version I provide, or it is the player converting to PCM on playback.
PCM has been a standard so long that many systems are setup to convert to PCM by default. This is *NOT* the way to listen to DSD, especially pure DSD recordings such as "Acoustic Trio", "The Window", "Crossing" and other stuff I've done. If someone is playing the .DSF files and sees "PCM" on their player then the setup of the player is not correct or doesn't support DSD.
The OPPO BDP-103, 105 and earlier versions are exceptional because they are in fact DSD DAC devices as well as great players all around. No external DAC is needed to hear native DSD playing from the OPPO. That is incredible value considering other popular DSD DACs may cost in the $1500 range and above (some are lower such as LOKI).
The typical problem on the playback system (OPPO as the prime example here) are:
- SACD output is set to "PCM" instead of "DSD" in the audio setup.
- HDMI output is set to "ON" or "Enabled" instead of disabled -- HDMI is there to support HDMI AV/PrePro gear and usually requires a PCM conversion to send the audio downstream from the player. Instead HDMI should be disabled and the output sent to ANALOG OUT!
The differences between HD PCM (24/88.2KHz, 24/96KHz) and DSD 1/2.8Mhz are huge and the OPPO should IMO be enjoyed for the DSD output it does in fact support when setup correctly and output goes through analog to a PRE/PRO or Amplifier.
The OPPO page has different formats of audio to compare but I didn't read anyone who actually listened to the native DSD -- only the FLAC 88.2k.
I hope this helps clarify things a bit. Feel free to share this with those on the forum... - DE
PS -
Here is what I wrote about this on my blog: davideliasblog.wordpress.com/2013/09/27/bartender-give-me-a-sandwich/
Here is what I worked with OPPO on regarding OPPO BDP setup in this regard:
And from another email:
Thanks George. I can say that I and the other people working on these recordings and mixes have been very careful (since 1999 when I started working with DSD) to optimize the sound quality by introducing as few artifical and external digital effects or enhancements (like compression) as possible. So we achieve a very accurate representation of the live studio performances using state of the art recording techniques to capture the ambient nature of the room and players performances.
