If it operates like the UMC-1 waiting list, pre-order deliveries were liberally salted with full-price purchases. This makes sense from a business perspective, and I wouldn't expect Emotiva to do it differently this time around. It was 40% discount holders that were salted, anyone on the preorder paying full price just waited for their turn. Dave.

Everyone seems to forget that we haven't jumped straight from the UMC-1 right to the XMC-1….. there "is" a processor in-between and I would assume that preorder process would be the model also used for the XMC-1.
When the UMC-200 was released, there was no "salted" order for upgrade card holders. Upgrade card users preordered by phone where their order and payment information was taken. You then simply mailed the physical upgrade card in using a mail carrier of your choice. Your order shipped (at the discounted price) once Emotiva was in receipt of your card. No waiting (other than the card's "in-mail" time) and no "salted" order.
Seeing as that model was smooth and fair to everyone, I wouldn't expect a repeat of the UMC-1 "preorder" process.

I don't think there was a preorder for the UMC-200.
I would expect it to go like the UMC-1 either.
Dave.

Yes, there was, but the lead time was minimal (which is why I can see why you'd think there wasn't). Emotiva didn't start taking preorders for the UMC-200 until the first shipment was literally "on the water" and it sold out very quickly. I didn't use "my" upgrade card towards the UMC-200 that I currently own (and I do still own my - now retired - UMC-1), but my son did use his. As the "owner of record" and Upgrade Card holder of his UMC-1 (I purchased it as a gift for him), I had to also place his UMC-200 preorder. So, I've had a little first hand experience with the process. Let's hope the XMC-1 is as smooth…..

Looking forward to valentines day. I have. Had it preordered for a long time but had decided against getting it. But now I am back to going to grab one (and buy an upgrade card too) Very excited. Anyone know of I will be able to control Dirac through a wifi brigdge into the Ethernet port of the xmc1 (using my MacBook )? It basically makes the Ethernet wireless over the house network. That would make it a dead go for me Thanks!

That would make it a dead go for me Thanks! I presume that the DIRAC software will use a regular IP connection to the XMC-1 so then it should be no problem. I'm always using an EDIMAX BR-6285n as a wireless bridge for devices which only have an Ethernet port. Maybe you could even power the wireless bridge via the USB-A port on the back....

I am looking to up grade soon to the XMC-1 as I am sick of the eternal problems with my UMC-1. Which keeps loosing channels in Dolby or DTS inputs. Works fine with Stereo most times.
Up-grade certificates were not sent to purchasers of the UMC-1 who live outside of the US so I was told, but are held at Emotiva head office. Only hope they have still got them when it is my turn on the upgrade list.

I wonder how much the Canadian dollar will drop by the time my name comes up on the list. It keeps getting more expensive by the day. The americans are the lucky ones since they are printing so much money And everything is because xmc is coming soon I remember when I found out about Emotiva, there where people waiting for the xmc..I purchased the UMC and got to know it pretty good. The software upgrading made me think of my comodore 64. Push play on tape.. At least I have learned a lot, like not upgrading software as long as it works. I had to try every upgrade.. My hopes for the XMC is stellar sound! I love good sound, but not fancy-stuff that I will not use anyway. And by the way, my discount-card is in my safe.

But I'd expect a lot of the people on the waiting list to have 40% cards, not sure how Emotiva are going to manage it (all waiting listees are equal, but some are more equal than others?).

I wouldn't think there's any "managing" to it. When the XMC-1 is ready they'll let the ones who have signed the list(s) know. Those that have an upgrade card (or 25% off for life) fine; those that don't, fine too. If you're not on the list(s) it doesn't matter whether you have the card (or 25% off for life) or not.. Once everyone on the list(s) have had their opportunity to buy or pass then it'll go up on the website to put in the cart. My opinion.

What did you say your address is? I put mine in my Safe Deposit Box at the bank. LOL Doing FW upgrades on the XMC-1 is going to be very easy... very much like updating the FW on your Oppo 103/105. As Lonnie said, it will now be idiot proof. I guess that means even I will be able to do it. Seriously, compared to the "nightmare multi-step upgrade process of the UMC-1, doing FW upgrades on the XMC-1 will be so easy it will seem like FUN. I actually look forward to doing my first FW upgrade on the XMC-1.

Is it time to start saving the other 60% yet. I've saved it and spent it 5 times now. Just spent $1,300 on a couple of subs.
