Don't you have a thread about looking to purchase a UPA-500 or was that thread a mistake ?

Don't you have a thread about looking to purchase a UPA-500 or was that thread a mistake ? +1 And you also started a thread in Feb 2014 asking what AWG cable is recommended for your XPA-5/UMC-200 combo.

I have run the older Polk LSi15 speakers with the smaller EMO amps, starting with a UPA2, then XPA3, then an XPA2 and finally 2 XPA1 amps. The more power you feed the Polk speaker the better they run. The XPA2 was really sweet spot for the price/performance, providing more than enough power to drive the Polk speakers. The XPA1's are a bit overkill, but they are very nice and clean.
One suggestion would be to invest in a XPA2 or XPA3 for the front speakers (or Front/Center speakers), and keep the UPA700 for the rear channels. If you go with the XPA2, it makes a killer two channel system, lots of overhead for music listening, or more than enough for the Home Entertainment solution. You would even have enough channels left over to try 9.1 (see Atmos thread).
I currently have the XPA2 driving my LSi15 speakers as surrounds, the 2 XPA monoblocks driving the B&W 704, and the XPA3 driving the Center and rear surrounds. The UPA2 is my work system amp. The XPA2 is an excellent amp for the Polks.
Good luck with your decision

I'm rewiring my surrounds, distance to my XPA 5/ UMC 200 is about 30ft for LS...40ft for RS , which wire gauge is recommended? Cheers !!! Just got myself the Polk Audio Tsi 400....Cs 10....Tsi 100 as surrounds, getting the UPA 500 to drive the Polks, is this a good match in terms of evryting technical abt speakers n amps........please advise. The emphasis is mine. Sorry, but that reads as gear you own, not as asking for friends. Why not simply state "hey, I'm asking on behalf of a friend with this setup: X amp / Y processor / Z speakers." So for the record, you currently own a UPA-700 and are wanting to move up to the XPA-5. I recommend reading this thread in which the poster is asking the same question. However, they have a larger room than you, but with more sensitive speakers. Pay particular attention to Chuckienut's questions and see if you can come up with some answers. That may help you decide. For what it's worth, I think it would be a good move for you. Your Polks are less sensitive than mr's Klipsch speakers, but you have a smaller room.

Sorry but who cares what she asked before. Maybe it's a friend system, maybe it's hers but she changed her mind. Why are you guys giving a new user the third degree on what she may have said in Feb?

Third degree? Not at all. Just trying to sort out conflicting info. If jessa69's statements are taken at face value, he/she (no gender listed in profile) has used a XPA-5/UMC-200 combo for a while (noted in Feb 2014). Yesterday, he/she created a thread stating a new UPA-500 was en-route for the system. Today, he/she creates a new thread stating he's/she's been using a UPA-700/UMC-200 since January 2013 and asks whether the XPA-5 is worth an upgrade. So, the OP had a UPA-700, then upgraded to a XPA-5, then got a UPA-500, then asks if an upgrade from UPA-700 to XPA-5 is suggested? Sorry, but that made me go "huh?" Since jessa69 has clarified that he/she has posted on behalf of friends, that helps to clear the water. We did not have this information before. I think it's great that they are helping out friends. Most of us here are probably in the same boat--that is, we are the "go to" guy or gal on all things Home Theater. As I've already suggested, I think the XPA-5 upgrade idea would be great. Likely the last amp jessa69 will need for HT. That said, I do like restless's alternate suggestion for a XPA-2 or XPA-3 to drive the fronts, keeping the UPA-700 for surrounds and future expansion. The fronts, arguably, take the lion's share of power requirements. Putting the mains or LCR on a XPA-2 or XPA-3 would be cheaper as well. The UPA-700's power supply would be freed up and offer more grunt for the surrounds. However, this avenue requires more space--two amps instead of one. That would be a choice for OP.

I think the most amount of money should go towards the speakers in this case. I wouldn't spend a $1000 on an amp if the main tower speakers are $250 a pair. Especially as you already have a good capable amp in the form of the UPA-700. It really is good! I recommend spending $1000 on upgrading the front left and right speakers for the best sound quality increase. Like this unit: www.tektondesign.com/lore.htmlIt is a high efficiency design that will perform well with the UPA-700. If you are willing to go a step more, check out the Lore-Seas which has higher end seas drivers. If you want to go down you can get the oriel ten ($850) or the m-lore ($650) from the same manufacturer.

Honestly OP, with a room that size I doubt you would notice a difference in the sound unless you like to listen to ear-bleeding levels. Spend the money on SACDs, BluRays, good wine and enjoy the sound

I drive Polk LSI 15,s and a LSIC center and two monitor 70,s as side surrounds. The Xpa 5 has loads of power, and runs cool.
