Hey guys,
I have an opportunity to purchase a like new pair of KEf xq30s for a pretty good price. However I've read some reviews that say the speakers are bright at times. I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with the xq30s or KEF.

I had the XQ3,s and they do tend towards bright/cold. But with the right gear and source, sound fantastic. I just don't think some of Enotiva's gear sound good with them (spec. their pre's)They like gear that could be described as more musical or warm.

I voted "Yay" because I like their very revealing sound but I can understand why some people wouldn't. I don't play music at very loud levels so their forward nature wouldn't be an issue, more likely an asset. They are superb for classical and jazz music at low, mid and high listening levels, but a bit too upfront and in your face for loud rock music. For movies they were outstanding, very fast and accurate response. I suspect that they wouldn't work well in a lively room, if you have hard floors, lots of glass, minimalist soft furniture and no treatment then the KEF Reference series would be a better choice.
If appearance is a criteria they are a superb looking speaker, truly beautiful cabinetry timber finish.
Cheers Gary

Audition it before, choosing especially speakers is a matter of taste.

KEF makes great speakers subject to one's own taste and environment. I have had several models of these English speakers and haven't found any fault whatsoever. Their flagship speaker (Blade) costs upwards of $30k a pair. Many of the models share trickle down technologies from their reference models.
