Hi Emotiva Family,
My last post was on the 9th of August it was my birthday. I wanted to say thanks and how excited I was to receive all those well wishes from you guys. At that time I was trying to decide what to get myself as a birthday present. The choice was replace my aging sofa, or replace my subwoofer which has developed a short of some kind I'm thinking it's in the volume control. I'm cheap ! So I chose the least costly of the two, the sub right. Well the first thing I decided was to see if I could repair the unit myself. I took the sub's rear panel off and discovered that it contained the entire Amp Assembly, which was easily removed by unplugging two wires. I'm not into soldering and the switch I wanted to replace had about six weld contact points. So then I decided to contact Polk Audio to see how much a the Amp Assembly for my PSW505 would cost. A representative from Polk C/S responded with the part number for the Amp Assembly and a cost of $300.00 +s/h.
I can replace the whole sub with a new one for $219.95 free shipping from Amazon.com I also found that I could get a factory refurbished PSW505 directly from Polk on e-bay for $204.99 free shipping. Not that I'm stuck on Polk I was looking for the cheapest solution. I just had to e-mail that Polk customer service person to inform them that it was cheaper to replace the sub then it would be to repair it. Wow ! A new sub is cheaper than just buying the Amp Assembly part go figure.
So I'm setting here at the laptop making this post and there was a knock at the door. It was my friend "snacker" who I met here on the forum. He was in the neighborhood and stopped by for a short visit. We haven't been in touch lately he's pretty busy. So I was telling him this story and how I was posting on Emotiva about it. He has two Emotiva Ultra Sub 12 which was over kill so one has been in his closet collecting dust. He offered to let me use it. I offered to buy it. So I'm now the owner of a Emotiva Ultra Sub 12 for $150.00 What a deal...
