This is running list.... Current at the released V1.1 firmware shipping and posted in the resources page.
Current V1.1 firmware known or identified issues.
Older amp trigger dropping when changing inputs/modes/set top channels (known issue now and fix is in the system but not released - probably will come with the Dirac update), workaround with DIY modded cable or use manual power button for affected amps. LV This is due to current limiting. The trigger outputs are limited to 100mA of current. On some amps there is a capacitor in line with the amp that when starting up will draw more than the 100mA limit and the output get will momentarily shut off to protect itself from burn out. Putting a low value resistor in line with the trigger will limit the current draw as the capacitor charges.
Non USA tuner zone setting fails to change to Europe/Asia, support is aware of this by now I hope. LV We are investigating this to see what is going on. The tuner is designed for multiple regions, we just need to isolate where in the code it is not being switched.
Screen lockup/garbling with some brightness change... KIV EDIT Now its happened again and I think I had something similar but no garbled screen when changing the brightness
AUTO MODES Maybe not a bug but this is possibly causing some to have to use rather high volume setting to get decent levels from 2 channel audio when rear/surround or centre speakers are present regardless of their desire to use them. Support is aware but this could be a non bug / feature. LV This is not a bug. You will need to go into the speaker config manager and set up how many speakers you have. The default out of the box is for 7.2. In your case you are only running 2.0. So once you set up the speaker config to 2.0, it will work as you would expect it too. The reasoning behind the multi-channel modes is very simple. This is a multichannel processor and although it works equally well in two channel applications, its primary design function was for multichannel. That being said, like all multichannel processors you have to define how many speakers you have. Also, the reason it defaults to multichannel modes when your speaker config is for multichannel, is because the majority of tech calls we get are from people who simply state, I have X number of speakers and I want them all to play, so that is why it is set up out of the box to play in all speakers, depending on how many speakers you have.
An odd loss of IP address in DHCP mode, and in turn no lights on the rear LAN indicating traffic...required manual reboot from full off. I have now set a fixed IP and will monitor. KIV Probably a one off...will remove in due course if not repeated.
Possible low audio levels with HDMI passthrough on standby (TV speaker). Possibly with inconsistent levels. KIV Probably a one off...will remove in due course if not repeated. LV In order to make the output to the TV universally compatible we port out the PCM code because some TVs are not capable of handling the bitstream. The PCM stream is simply sent to the TV and does not have any volume controls to it, but depending on what your TV's capabilities are, the PCM stream could be handled at a different level from a bitstream. Maybe an option setting to use BITSTREAM or PCM?
Test tone for dual mono subs will play for only one sub. If set it for stereo subs, the tone plays for each sub. LV we have duplicated this and have already resolved it. Is it in a shipping firmware or destined for a next release?
Missing selection items in the vertical view - When you move down (to the right) in the menus there seems to be some selections with visible options like speaker size (small/large)…but others like filter slope or freq that only show the one selected and not the above and below options that can be selected. LV I was unaware of this one till now, but we will look into it. Should be pretty straight forward to add the 12db text since that is the only other option. This one is in many menu items...as I mentioned in most all of the PEQ options bar the TEST TONE LEVEL selection. Preferences for front panel and others there too.
Confirmed issue on USB from MAC even with the latest USB-3 on 10.9.4 you can still only select 44.1/48/88.2/96 there is no option to select anything above 96. The midi audio panel is where you change it. Tried with a PC and the result is the same. good news is all 4 of those frequencies work fine. seems to be the same for HDMI I recalled someone mentioned. (14/08/26) From a member - Xmc will not play above 96k currently, they are working on this.
Seems there is a display issue when HDMI Audio is not HDMI that the selected AUDIO interface is not displayed. (14/08/26)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will try to post links to these bug references above when I get a moment
Emotiva Support staff, please feel free to add other known bugs so we can be aware of them and NOT tear our hair out when there IS a known issue.
Work arounds and known gotchas
There is a trigger cable mod that can be DIY'd but most should wait for the firmware fix or a new cable that might be available from Emotiva for those affected...in the meantime, disable your triggers or pull them out and use manual power of for affected amps.
Auto modes on all channels ...affecting some or many....This is by design to set 7.2 for all inputs (see LV comment above post) Workaround is for Stereo inputs is turn all my inputs off auto and set 2.0 to Stereo or Direct and 5.0 to surround modes or Direct. Unless of course you like your 2 Channel messed with and trigger all your amps on regardless .
Tuner will work only on odd numbered frequencies like 99.5 99.7 but not 99.6, a problem for many of those outside the USA and Canada
DSD will only play/display DSD Stereo or DSD Direct, and optionally DSD Direct with rears if you have rears enabled. - might need to update this as I don't have MC DSD enabled on my source.
reserved for other idea...maybe features or Emotiva responses to planned releases
Lifted from AudioHTIT's post...thanks for the info in the other thread
I thought I'd copy an excerpt from my "Running Thread From EmoLA", many of these questions were based on XMC-1 features requested in this thread. It at least gives an idea whether some of the features could or might be implemented, though my brief answers don't convey the amount of work some might take. ... Lonnie was very generous with his time, he just answered quite a few questions. XMC-1 Questions - me & Answers (Lonnie) - Possible 5.x Enhancements - Dolby PLIIz (no), NEO:X (haven't considered), Bi-Amp (working on it), Atmos (5.2.2 - working with Dolby) - Possible 7.x Enhancements - Copy Surround to Rear (possible, in discussion) - Full bandwidth pink noise (working on it) - Network Streaming - DLNA, NAS (yes, capability already native - working on it - ask Ray on specific file types - most majors supported) - USB File Player - USB stick or hard drive (yes, working on it-some may work now) - no other apps or widgets like Netflix / Amazon - 5 Hz increments for subwoofer crossover (reasonable) - Can you add back the virtual sources from the UMC-1? (Yes! but haven't been working on it - actual owners will need to want it) - Additional work on dual mono subs for ganged EQ w/separate distances (unlikely) - Will App and IP protocols be released soon? (Yes, September likely, protocol waiting for additional security testing) - API enhancements for Open Web (yes, likely, need more security and protection) - Can HDMI be made to allow audio to processor AND HDMI output simultaneously - (yes, will consider) - IP to IR redirect [GreenKiwi] - (yes possible, will have to discuss with Larry/Jerry?) - Do all Zone 2 states 'stick' through power cycle? (Yes, including power) - Is there midnight mode w/ dynamic compression? (Yes) - Bluetooth module for XMC-1 (Possible) - OLED Goodies: RTA, SPL, VU Meters (possible - under consideration) - Atmos additional channels via outboard box (not likely due to licensing and copy protection to get signal outside of box) - Atmos additional channels via zone 2 or other internal, 5.2.4 7.2.2 (possible, Z2 routing issues to resolve) - Dirac still on schedule? (Looks very good for September)
I will attempt to mark up in the first post a running list of known bugs and when they get fixed, what firmware and maybe some work arounds in the second post.
Please only post bugs here...as you find them but this is not a discussion area so we can keep the thread tidy and not go on and on...and for that matter risk getting locked
Perhaps its a good idea to also list the 4 firmware versions you are running...found under info in the setup menu...and your setup if not self explanatory in your sig.
Please respect this effort.
Not an owner yet but several have reported low audio levels with HDMI passthrough on standby (TV speaker). One reported the levels to be different between two sessions.
USB Streaming limited to 96k.
I use a Mac Mini and have this issue, but I have seen others report it as well. Status of a fix is unknown.
Additionally, the XMC-1's DAC capabilities are not reported to the Mac when it boots and unplugging and reinserting the USB cable (at the Mac) does not force a read. The XMC-1 must be rebooted while the Mac is already running.
FWIW, my DC-1 did not exhibit this behavior and worked flawlessly with the Mac.
FWIW, the "trigger drop" issue has already been fixed by Emotiva and will be included in the next firmware update.
The "temporary" fix is as noted here (above), but if you call or email Emotiva directly, they will send you a modified trigger cable.
Cross-post from another thread:
I just had an odd issue that may or may not be related to the trigger. I have an LPA-1, and was surprised that people with more recent amps than mine were having problems. I'd stepped away from our TV room for a bit, and when I came back into the room, I noticed an irregular very soft thumping noise. I didn't know where it was, and it was driving me nuts. I happened to glance over at the LPA-1, and I noticed that the light was flickering between blue and amber. I pulled the trigger, and it stopped. Put the trigger back in place, and it started right back up. That's weird, I thought. I know people are having a similar problem, but why did this start 3 days after I received my XMC-1?
I unplugged the trigger, thinking I was done for the moment. Then I noticed that the damned thumping was still happening. I walked over to my sub, touched the cone, and sure enough, it was thumping, just barely. I turned off the XMC-1, and the problem stopped immediately. I turned on the XMC-1, and the problem started back up. The only source on at the time was my HTPC, soI decided to switch it off. Wouldn't you know it, the sub stopped thumping. I reconnected the trigger, and and everything was golden.
I can understand if the HDMI cable from the HTPC was sending a signal causing the sub to have issues, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it would have caused the LPA-1 to behave like it did. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them.
Tonight I noticed my LPA-1 light flickering when the HTPC was off, but the PS4 was on. Could this be a weird voltage regulation issue?
Test tone for dual mono subs will play for only one sub. If I set it for stereo subs, the tone plays for each sub.
Thanks Lonnie...
#1 Its nice to know that we have a list of issues that for the most part is know. However why are these known issues not being communicated to the user base when they are first identified. We are all happy to know what is known out there and adjust our setups to work around what can be...and not having to struggle to figure out what is going on when its reported in and we get a oh yeah we know about that. The trigger is is a prime example.
#2 I guess with no Asia/Eroupean testing this slipped thru the crack...I offer my BETA testing availability program inclusion once again. Im sure it will be fixed...there will be quite a lot to get into this next firmware.
#3 I can't comment on...if it dent get a repeat offence for a week or 2 then we can clear it as a glitch maybe.
#4 again I stand firm that out of the box 2 channel is 2 channel and 2 channel inputs should not be messed up by applying 5/7.1/.2 processing modes. I would like to see a fair and open vote on this as it has clearly stumped a few of us at least for the HDMI streams and 7.1 inputs maybe no issue, but when the input is detecting PCM 2.0 then it should use 2 channels to play. while you can setup your way out of it you shouldn't have to. I ended up using preset 1 for 2 channel and preset 2 for multichannel.
#5 The unit was in video passthru standby and when I came back the next day it had no IP and no lights... either way the lights should indicate a connection. On another norte what can we do with the internet / pan connection at this time?
#6 Explained for now...maybe not the best solution...perhaps a fix to configure passthru to support PCM or BITSTREAM?
#7 same issue as triggers, why are we not told about these known issues?
#8 (there is no 9 that should be LV) the issue is not just with the slope option it applies to most if not ALL of the PEQ options
Lonnie thanks again for taking the time...while its not an official list its nice to have you come in and provide some details on whats being addressed and work sounds.
BUT I still have a big issue with the 2 channel defaulting to 7.2 DSP modes. What is the reasoning behind this decision?
I think this may support your comments on #7, which I had posted. When watching my Tivo with XMC pass-through to my Kuro I have found that when I select the non-HD Cable Channel with 2.0 audio, the audio level is much higher than the same HD channel with 5.1. Also noticed that in watching cable channels with local commercials in pass-through the level goes up when the the channel switches from 5.1 program content to the local commercial. It then goes back to lower level when returning to 5.1. THIS IS NOT a HOT COMMERCIAL audio issue, as the audio level in this situation is consistent when listening to the XMC through the amps/speakers. Could this have something to do also with the Wiz's findings about 2.0 audio and number of speakers? Is the XMC receiving 5.1 and applying SURROUND mode then switching to 2.0 (Auto?). I think it is important to note that this particular issue may be a Pioneer issue as to it's handling of the XMC pass-through as likely as an issue with the XMC. However, I must point out I never experienced these low pass-through levels with the Marantz 8801 which I have removed for the XMC.
Ok I'm going to leave the #4 there for now just so people are aware with the workaround, but report it as a by design. But I still stand by the fact that a 2 channel input should be treated out of the box as such. We can have an arm wrestle over it if I ever make it Emofest...if they ever have a single event in the future. I do have another confirmed issue on USB from MAC even with the latest USB-3 on 10.9.4 you can still only select 44.1/48/88.2/96 there is no option to select anything above 96. The midi audio panel is where you change it. Not tried with a PC but will do so in due course. good news is all 4 of those frequencies work fine. While the FM Tuner is not working for me on all stations (only odd numbered ones) the station text features are doing fine with 88.9 being detected correctly as BBC WS and NEWS but on stations with a lower signal I get corrupted or no display. One issue is on the monitor the OSD screen disappears before you get a chance to have the seek settle and so you miss what it stopped on if you blink. The tuner info on the oled display is good tho. Seems just about every station is Top 40 ... how depressing. jenix you might be onto something there with the modes Why is ALL STEREO dropping the front signal levels so much - shouldn't it just pump the same levels to the surrounds and rears? taking into consideration of the speaker settings of course for size, level and PEQ etc
I just tried setting the "Front Brightness to 0% through the "preferences" menu and the XMC-1 will not shut down properly.
Here's a pic of what I see...
Was having an issue getting it to shut down while it was acting like this. Amp will shut off but not the XMC-1. I finally got it to shut off after multiple power off and ons via remote and the more I did that the more the screen garbled.
Changing Front Brightness back to 100% solves the problem.
I had a lock up too but didn't get the garbled screen that I recall, but I was changing the screen brightness at the time. I forget if it was via normal dim button or in the setup menu...clearly this bug is going to stay on the list
Minor main display bug. Under input setup I used HDMI4 for video and Optical3 for audio. The XMC-1 use Optical3 as input, no HDMI4 audio, but the display still show A: HDMI4 as the input. Attachment Deleted
I don’t know if it’s a bug, but with my setup with the two XPA-2 G1 in bridge mode, I am not able to adjust the speaker level down to test tone sound level. I tried to use the 65 dB test level, but with the maximum -12 dB adjustment my speakers was still way over the 65 dB output on the SPL level meter.
No subwoofer output on SUBWOOFER OUT R (BALANCED) with SUBWOOFER setup set to MONO.
