Is there a way to add vinyl to my oppo 105, which is currently being used as my one and only?
Any suggestions on entry level turntables

I don't see it happening. The 105 has no RCA in which is where you'd plug in an XPS-1 or some other phono pre amp. Also, with many TT, a lot of time you get what you pay for. A $179.00 U-Turn TT is not going to sound as good as a $400.00 TT. But I digress.

Not really, I was speaking of a descent entry level price point. i didn't go nuts with my selection but it is very possible to do so. $180,000.00 will get you a piece of art as we'll but in my world I spent around $1800.00 with cartridge. I'm extremely happy with my choice. I do have 4 other TT and this is my top of the line. All TT and cartridges have different sounds and abilities. You will have to ask yourself , how good do I want my TT to sound and at what price point will I feel comfortable spending. Do you want to start spending on a new format? I think the sound is worth it but not for every CD that I own. And then there's the need for a phono pre amp. I don't want to scare you off but these are things that need to be considered. Sorry if you have done this already, I just want to give you full disclosure. im sending you a PM in a second. Nick

Pro-ject also fits. The numbers weren't bad on the orbit. Put in a better cartridge. Not much investment if vinyl is not his flavor.

PLEASE don't shoot me...I don't want to die. No one gets hurt, no foul! Rega does sell a nice entry level TT for about $445.00 as does a few other reputable manufacturers. and there are a bevy of upgrade paths for most all of them.

For vinyl you need an analogue (active) preamplifier as the signal strength from a cartridge is not sufficiently high enough to feed a power amp directly. Plus cartridge outputs need frequency equalisation, hence the need for a phono preamp (can be passive). You can use a combined phono preamp and pre amp like a USP-1 or XSP-1. Or a separate phono preamp like an XPS-1 and a processor like a UMC-200 or an XMC-1.
Cheers Gary

We're back to the 105 not having any analog inputs. He could buy one of those turntables that have a USB output.

This isn't ideal but you can get an analog to digital converter that does - say SPDIF coax RCA out. But obviously you're vinyl will no longer be analog but have an analog to digital conversion step. Followed by a Digital to analog conversion step by the oppo DAC. Those two steps may (note the word MAY) limit the quality. www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Converter-Selectable-Sampling/dp/B0055EBH5S
