Belatedly discovered that amazing jazz bassist passed away from complications of returning polo on 11 July at age 76. He was one of my all time favorites. He worked with some of the greats of jazz - Keith Jarret, Pat Metheny, Ornett Coleman, Stan Getz, Wayne Shorter, Brad Mehldau, John McLaughlin, Chet Baker, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Lee Konitz, Michael Brecker and many, many more. His moving acceptance speech at the 2013 Grammys shows true humility, humor and doggedness in the face of illness. www.grammy.com/videos/charlie-haden-lifetime-achievement-award-acceptanceOne of my favorite, gentler pieces performing with Pat Metheny:

A very gifted bassist who lives on through his three daughters - Tanya, Petra & Rachel are also talented musicians. I have an album by Petra where she sings "The Who Sell Out" entirely acapella, very unique and interesting (more so if you know the original). Good man.
