Ah, good to know I'm loved... You must have a live connection to Dirac HQ every time you create a NEW curve. Once this is done, assuming you are not creating a new curve, you do not need an active connection. This is how it works and it is NOT going to change. Having it operate over a cellular modem IS a big thing. It is the least "reliable" method for data transfer. We now have it operating very nicely over "difficult" connections. This was hard to do and is important for system reliability. A typical home or office network is a breeze now. Remember, there were many who were positive the XMC-1 would never ship. Well, it did. Now the Dirac release is right around the corner and those who said it would never happen will have to find something new to talk about. Next... Cheers, Big Dan Hi Dan, For roadshow LTE/4G calibration I'd use an Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware (Toastman has a nice build) and a USB "turbo stick" LTE radio. I would also use external antennas with that Huawei E3276 USB radio. www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320091&cm_re=rt-n66u-_-33-320-091-_-Productconsumer.huawei.com/en/mobile-broadband/dongles/features/e3276-en.htmbestcelldist.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=35998&zenid=e65d58f356620fd2b8d504d717765fcaHere is the firmware needed for the router and the firmware file for that specific model router is "tomato-K26USB-NVRAM64K-1.28.0506.3MIPSR2Toastman-RT-N-VPN-NOCAT.trx". www.4shared.com/dir/v1BuINP3/Toastman_Builds.html?locale=en#dir=yIMXihqBI can't stress enough how important those external antennas are and the quality and speed of the connection will be greatly improved using external antennas. PS the router has to be that SPECIFIC MODEL RT-N66U using the broadcomm chipset and not the newer ARM based RT-68U or other models

Can I hardwire a connection to the XMC? If so that's the way I'm going. Djoel Yes. There is an ethernet jack on the back of the unit.

Come on Dan, lets see some proof that its not a rebadged UMM-6. Tony I'm sure the capsule and other parts come from a similar/same factory. The cylindrical body of the unit though is being made at Emo/Jade or perhaps they are coming whitebox with no markings and Emo/Jade are just laser etching them.

OK, a couple of things...
1. The USB measurement microphone is manufactured right here in Nashville, including the casing. It's a milled aluminum pencil style with an XLR connector on one end. It contains a custom calibrated electret capsule. An XLR to USB cable is provided along with a table top stand and microphone clip.
2. The Dirac software runs on your computer. The measurement microphone is plugged into the computer via the USB microphone cable.
3, The XMC-1 and the your computer are both connected to your home network. This can be wired or wireless, it doesn't matter.
4. When running the Dirac calibration, the computer and the XMC-1 are in communication with each other via the network. The computer tells the XMC-1 what to do, like generating the necessary test signals, changing levels, channels, etc. When the computer is done with the testing and has computed the final results, it sends the final room correction data to the XMC-1 and presto, sonic bliss!
5. You're done. If you wish, you can remove the computer from the system and disconnect the XMC-1 from the network. They are not necessary for day to day operation. The Dirac room correction code is stored in the XMC-1.
6. We'll be sending out microphones, accessories, and full instructions to all owners shortly.

Is your Mac old enough to not run Bootcamp? All the technical people I know happily run Windows on their Mac if they have a reason to.. My MacBook Air runs Windows 7 real nicely!

Cheers, Big Dan I'm guessing the topic will be either "Oh noes, the blue lights" or "I don't like the script font". Very cool to see some new news on the Dirac front! The microphone being made in Nashville is spiffy.

Nor do I wish to shell out money to buy the Windows OS. Thanks anyway. And I'm quite technical. Besides being a technical writer I project managed a multi-million dollar software installation overseas. And I still prefer Macs.

That's great if you don't feel like installing it and using it at all.... You could just run it when you need a windows app. No need to get defensive. I run MacOS as needed. Not complicated. If the Emotiva software has the same support: www.dirac.se/en/online-store/-frequently-asked-questions-and-free-pdf-manual.aspxWhich operating system and computer performances are required? System requirements • Windows Vista, 7, 8 • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - 10.9 Mavericks

I'm curious if the mic will come with a calibration file that can be used in the DIRAC software.

It's been promised for years. And, I sure hope you have the new DIRAC TCS (Toast Correction System) applied in it the day it arrives. Mark

Thank you very much for the updates, Dan. I'm SO excited. My two week stint with Dirac was wonderful. As much as I like the EQ'd sound of the XMC-1, I can't wait to get Dirac back in the system. Any chance you could confirm two things:
1. Can we use our own mics, or do we have to use the Emotiva mic? I ask because miniDSP locks people into the umik-1. 2. Is the upgraded version available from day 1, or will we have to wait a bit? I've got a house curve currently, and I'd like to experiment a bit since Dirac makes it so easy.
