Please note, this is not the final skin. This is our engineering skin, but it is very similar to what you will use.
But, you get the idea. We have full functionality in place. The photos were taken from our meeting room system. Check out the nasty response we were getting from the center channel before correction. You could never clean this up so completely with a parametric EQ!
The mic uses a graded capsule and no calibration file is necessary. We do not recommend using a third party microphone.

Ah, good to know I'm loved... You must have a live connection to Dirac HQ every time you create a NEW curve. Once this is done, assuming you are not creating a new curve, you do not need an active connection. This is how it works and it is NOT going to change. Having it operate over a cellular modem IS a big thing. It is the least "reliable" method for data transfer. We now have it operating very nicely over "difficult" connections. This was hard to do and is important for system reliability. A typical home or office network is a breeze now. Remember, there were many who were positive the XMC-1 would never ship. Well, it did. Now the Dirac release is right around the corner and those who said it would never happen will have to find something new to talk about. Next... Cheers, Big Dan Thanks for the further update. Really looking forward to the release. Any chance you can elaborate on the microphone that will be sent out? Hey, some of us feel the love here! It's a really cool looking microphone. Very sleek.

The following is pure speculation on my part: I took this to mean the capsules used all measure closely enough not to warrant a calibration file. It shouldn't be an issue long term if these are made in house since they would then make them to spec (an in house calibration) vs how other do it by compensating for manufacturing differences via software corrections.

Obviously I'm not Big Dan, but I wanted to jump in quickly and answer a couple of questions.
First you will need to use the mic we provide, and please trust me when I say you will not be disappointed. The mic is a professional quality mic and a work of art. We will post pics soon. Right now the mics are being assembled and will be laser engraved once assembly is complete. After that, we will post a pic for you guys so please be patient as we are taking our time on the assembly and testing to make sure they are all dead on.
REW. That is moving forward as well. Internally we have been running REW and exporting the correction files successfully. The only issue we are working on now is the importing into the XMC-1 which we are very close on. Once we get that bullet-proof, I believe it will be ready for release as well.

I believe the real benefit is that you get the mics out of he batch that are outliers. As long as the batch tests relatively closely - that's all that's needed. I personally don't believe that +/- 2-3 db is a big deal. It's the outliers that are 5-10db that screw things up and merit calibration. I imagine manufacuring tolerances play a big role in having consistent mic capsules.

Looking forward to more pics. PS: toaster?

I'm a tiny bit disappointed, just because I like as much flexibility as possible, but I'm sure I'll get over it . I don't know enough about mics to know if they drift over time (like light meters). Being the ham fisted klutz that I'm, if I drop or otherwise potentially compromise my mic, is there a method for sending it in for recalibration, or would that necessitate buying a new mic? Have you guys even considered the cost of a replacement mic if necessary? I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I plan to keep the XMC-1 for a long time, and I worry a little bit about being locked into a specific mic.

If you damage the mic, we can repair it, don't worry. As for drift, well that really isn't an issue. I have measurement mics that I have had for well over a decade that still measure the same as they did the day I got it. As for replacement cost, I honestly haven't considered that but I am sure it will happen so we need to work out a price. Lonnie

I don't know if my brain can handle all of this information in one evening . . . Just like the old days when I first joined this forum. We actually got info like this weekly and at times daily. Ah the good old days. Sadly those that didn't play nice ruined it for the rest of us. But it does feel good while it lasts.

Great updates Dan and Lonnie,
Any status update on the $99 Dirac target curve add on software?
