The brainchild of Magenta keyboard player Rob Reed, this album crosses the sonic universe with songs that touch upon many genre's including modern celtic folk, progressive rock, classical and even some opera. It is superbly recorded and arranged, and the song writing is spot on telling many stories but the central one being the sea and one mans struggle that drives him there.
The album's contributors include Steve Balsamo, who simply has a magnificent voice (and a three octave range), Steve Hackett (Genesis) nylon guitar, Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) drums, Nick Beggs (Steve Hackett Band) stick bass, Troy Donockley (Nightwish) Uilleann Pipes & whistles, Nick Barrett (Pendragon) guitar, Neil Taylor (Tears For Fears) guitar, Jakko Jackzyk (20th Century Skitzoid Band) guitar, Francis Dunnery guitar, John Mitchell (It Bites, Arena etc.) guitar, Mel Collins (King Crimson, Camel) saxophone, BJ Cole (Elton John, David Gilmour) pedal steel guitar, Chris Fry (Magenta) guitar and Christina Booth (Magenta) - backing vocals. (I want to attribute the information in this paragraph to Northern England Art Rock Society (thenears) blogspot).
The title song, Beneath The Waves is my favorite. Basalmo really shows his range on that cut. Truly impressive even if you don't like the music. What a great CD..

Ed, I believe I turned you on to this a while back. Are you just now getting a chance to listen to it? IIRC, it is also available as a multichannel DVD, which is what I have. And yes, the sound is truly spectacular...

And yes, the sound is truly spectacular... SCT Yes, it was suggested to me by another forum member long since gone from here (maybe not) and I've played it at least 25 times over the past year or two but I keep coming back to it because it's so different and well done. There is a companion CD now called Beneath the Waves Elements with alternate mixes and the whole cd done as an instrumental. Need to grab that as well. www.prog-sphere.com/news/kompendium-companion-edition-of-beneath-the-waves-album-released/
