Starting to research two new subs for my new HT.... I'm looking at companies like SVS, Rythmik, and PSA. My budget is $1000 per sub.
Prior to the drywall going up, I pulled two cables to each of my sub locations - one RCA (shielded RG6 from Monoprice) and one XLR (again, from Monoprice).
Given the length of my cables, should I limit my sub choices to only those with an XLR input, (which, given my budget, I think makes Rythmik my only option) or am I good to go with my shielded RCA's? (Which, obviously, I can buy anything I want within my budget...)
About two weeks ago, I purchased a UMC-200 via the Secret Warehouse Sale (the secret that everybody knows about... Ha!) - so both XLR and RCA are now an option for me.
My confession: The only thing I really know about XLR connections/cables, is they are 'better' or 'recommended' for longer cable runs. However, I don't know what is considered to be a long cable run: 10-feet? 50-feet? 100-feet? 1,000-feet?
All help and suggestions are appreciated...
Bob

100 ft. or less for XLR would be reasonable. And take a good look at Velodyne DD and Optimum subs, they are some of the best out there...

If you can stretch just a bit, you can buy two SVS PC12-Plus subs for $2279.99 - it's on their page for buying dual subwoofers, so you'd save about $60 per sub. These do have the XLR ins, but not their smaller sibling. If all three of the manufacturers you mention have free shipping then that's a wash there. These SVS PC12-Pluses will definitely rock your house (though there certainly are bigger, more killer and of course more expensive subs out there).

Length of cable run and interference (EMF, EMI, RFI etc) are the two reasons why you would choose the XLR interconnects over RCA's. So how long is the run and do you have any reasons to believe that there may be interference in your environment?
Cheers Gary

I have had them about 8 months They are way over kill for my small basement Theather my space is only 13x9x7 its in a corner of my basement so it is open to the larger end I have had many times when they have shaken every bone in my body as I sat on my couch. It may take awhile to get them tuned to the room,i have moved them numerous times and have found that close to center at both sides of my entertainment center sound the best My ERM 6.2s are on the outside of them.I will try to post a pic if poss. Cheers Gary Hi Gary - Well, my cables are crossing over numerous electrical pipes, running next to several can lights, etc. A typical basement ceiling. So, to answer your question, there probably is interference. Additionally, the cables are 50' long. I suppose i should only consider subs that use XLR.
