I want to increase the output of my oppo 105 headphone out. I'm thinking there is two options, but I have no idea if either will work.
1. Use a 1/4" to two RCA cable to connect to the amp. I should be able to leave the amp at full power and use the oppo volume control.
2. Use the l/r outputs on the 7.1 analog outs, hopefully will work while also using the dedicated balanced outputs for my speakers.

So are you saying you have another headphone amp other than the oppo. I'm having a hard time understanding the two options. What "amp" are you talking about?

I think they would both work. At least the first one will.

I'd go with the RCAs or XLRs on the back. You might look at some schiit gear.

I have my Oppo 105D connected via XLR to my AG Master 9 for headphone fun and it's butta. The M9 will drive anything. How do you like your 400s?
