I have a question about the high notes on a CD that a lot of us own and love. the CD. Does anyone one have harsh high notes with this recording? At times it sounds as if my tweeters are blown, but it seems to be just the extreme high notes. Anyone else have this effect with their tweeters. Or , is it just me being way toooooo critical of my speakers or the recording? Ibe been known to be a pain that way some times,,,,,,he,,,,,he,,,,,,he,,,,,,, my picture is next to the word , Perfectionest in the dictionary,,,,,as well as this one ,,,on occasion. Ive been know to be this stubborn,,,,,he,,,he,,,,,he,,,,, Any thoughts?

Try running the digital signal from your Oppo to the DC-1 if you haven't already. More to come if this is your setup.

I was playing the CD from the Oppo to the DC-1 to my Pre-1 to the amps. Edit; I guess I should mention that my XSP-1 has been at Emo for a month due to some noise in HT mode, it has always been dead quiet in two channel.

Are you using the analog inputs or one of the digital inputs on the DC-1?

Ok, good. Try going direct from Oppo to your Yamaha or any other Pre Amp. Pretty sure your Yamaha has a digital input. Correct me if I'm wrong. Continue changing connections and listen for any changes. Even try all analog to see how the highs sound.

Was this the way you were hooked up before you had to send in the XSP-1?

Many years ago I owned a Yamaha DSP-A3090. I've always regretted selling it.

Are the highs sounding better to you or pretty much the same. The harshness and thought of blown speakers has disappeared by using a different digital path, seems the Oppo to DC-1 is a problem,,,,,,I think. which smily face is for confusion?

I understand your confusion. I always try to keep the signal path as short and simple as possible. I'm sure you probably already know this but our Paradigm Towers can sound hot in the treble area. Much younger people love this kind of sound. I spent 2-years re-positioning my towers to calm down the tweeters.

But still, the signal path is no longer, Oppo to DC-1 vs Mac Mini to DC-1, same length, I'll check the cables I guess?

The problem can be;
1) Cables
2) Oppo 103
Good reason to try the ERC-3 if neither of the two fix the problem,,,,,,,,,,

Using your digital cable hook up one of the digital outputs from the Oppo to one of the digital inputs on the Yamaha . This was just to see if the treble sounded better to you. We are just experimenting, right. To me less cables are less possible antennas picking up possible noise. Sorry again, I missed a couple of your posts. Use the Yamaha pre outs to your amps.
