Sorry I should have stated it better. Take the DC-1 out completely. Using your digital cable hook up one of the digital outputs from the Oppo to one of the digital inputs on the Yamaha . This was just to see if the treble sounded better to you. We are just experimenting, right. To me less cables are less possible antennas picking up possible noise. Sorry again, I missed a couple of your posts. Use the Yamaha pre outs to your amps. . The Oppo to Yamaha via hdmi

Looks like you need the XMC-1. The highs are amazing...the lack of coloration is something else. But it's neutral and accurate like the Theta Casablanca and not particularly "warm".
I'm hoping even better things with Dirac but right now I'm enjoying the purity of "reference direct" mode.

Edit; it is very tempting, but only one source seems to give me this problem, and it may just be the cables. Just too tired to mess with it now. Mrs had me to a parade and then to the mall and now ,,,,,we're just getting done baking some cookies!!! So, I'm fat and tired!

Oh wait, you got the XPR-1s, i.e. Fully balanced from the XMC-1 to the XPR-1....wow. I'm going to post as much as I can to spread the word. The XMC-1 is that good. And this is the bitter me talking because I still don't have the activation code (the mic came with my xmc-1). You can sell any duplicating components to offset the cost Remember the Paradigms are not laid back speakers...but I don't have to tell you that.

LSC, you are devil.
"The XMC-1 is calling to you".
La La La, I can't hear you. If I could make emoji work here, I would use the little monkey with his fingers in his ears.
On the other hand. I was just looking at my Son's feet. He really does'nt NEED winter boots. He has a lot of toes.

Those Focals are gonna sing purer than you ever heard them sing with the XMC-1. This is a game changing pre/pro. The lack of coloration is astounding! And I'm still bitter about the activation code.

Or Amy I 9 th or 10 th,,,,,,he,,,,,he,,,,he,,,,,,,,, RMC-1? Lol...I guess you are not in a rush . The atmos is amazing but I have a new theory on that. I'm going to just spend $10 to watch the blockbuster action movies at the "extreme" theaters by my house. My system will never come close to equaling that theater room. The scale and dynamics are unparalleled unless I get the JBL synthesis. For now the XMC-1 (available now) combined with the XPR-5 has finally gotten my system to make the Revels sing like they did at the high end store with some super high end amp and preamp. The smoothness of the highs is as I remember. Not the slightly too bright I have encountered until now. The xda-2 was very good for music and so was the umc-200 for movies, but this is at a diff level of uncolored smoothness....and if our speakers are that neutral, it's the key to sonic bliss! I finally feel like I have a legit "high end" system. And the xmc-1 is that final piece I needed to make that happen. Let me know what you find out about the CD's highs. I may buy it just to see how it sounds on my system.

This CD is a forum favorite! taming it is not that hard but WILL reveal any shortcomings from any system. I only have this one configuration that gives it a hard time, all of the others work just fine. Like I said, it may just be a set of cables . even if you don't like Big Band, this CD will have you tapping you foot/feet!!! I promise. It cost most of us anout $2.00, how can that go wrong??? I'll pay you $5.00 for it if you don't like it!! How's that? Your Focals will " Sing, Sing, Sing " Anyone else agree?? Please speak up. Nick

I've never been a big band fan, but I really enjoy listening to this revealing recording. It has even turned me on to other big band music. Try it, you'll like it! Nick, you're not the first to covet an RMC-1 that includes Atmos, and potentially other new 3d audio format decoding. But this waiting line you're talking about doesn't matter anyway. I think we want to be "in line" for the RMC-1 preorder, right?

Nick, to summarize some of the info you've given: Oppo > TOSLink > DC-1 ... = Bad Highs Mac Mini > Mini TOSLink > DC-1 ... = Good Highs (lossless rips?) Oppo > TOSLink > Yamaha ... > Good Highs If you're using the same TOSLink cable with the Oppo then you can eliminate that as the problem. I'm a little unclear what happens in the ...'s above, but as aud has been trying to do, minimize your changes when troubleshooting. The Mac mini test seems to eliminate the DC-1 but more variables with the rip and playback. Just random thoughts trying to get the gist of the changes your making.

Nick,
Having hung back and watched this discussion, I am wondering if the DC-1 has a level problem with it's optical input. Have you tried the RF S/PDIF between the OPPO and the DC-1?
Or maybe a really long optical cable. I have no doubt that the OPPO has a really strong optical output.
