If your not familiar with the Dixie Dregs, they were a progressive, rockabilly band from the 70's and just loaded with talent. Check out the "What If" CD, it's very good. This song is from the Free Fall CD and its called Northern Lights, written by guitar god Steve Morse when he was in the Dregs. It is such a beautiful song and one of my alltime favorites. I hope you enjoy it.
It's kind of interesting that a rock band would record this type of song, it doesn't really fit their style but I'm glad they did..
This is live some years later without the violin and while nicely done, not as good with it missing..

Had a college buddy who listened to them...got me to buy a couple Steve Morse solo LP's. Good stuff. I always meant to buy some Dregs CD's. Need to put that on my list.

I have loved Dixie Dregs since the 80's when I would follow Steve Morse around the Atlanta Guitar Store scene when he would drop by.

I love Dixie Dregs. Us southern boys thrived on this stuff. "Northern Lights" was there second album and very good stuff. My favorite Dixie Dregs album and every song on it is there 1980 "Dregs of the Earth" and it is not even rated on Allmusic. www.allmusic.com/album/dregs-of-the-earth-mw0002520727

Dregs and Morse are great listens. First saw Steve in the early 90s playing with T. Lavitz, Dave LaRue and Van Romaine. We used to catch them at a little club in Piermont, NY called the Turning Point. Great little venue we saw him play several times. After the show they used to hang at the small bar to stage left and b.s. with everybody over a beer. Very, very nice guys.
While not the best composer/writer, the guy is a technical monster on the strings. Scott
Some serious pickin' but don't overlook LaRue's bass work. wow
