Here's my top 5 (or so) favorite releases in 2014 based on times I've played them. I even saw 3 of the 5 live (*)....Trigger Hippy twice!
1. Hypnotic Eye - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers *2. Trigger Hippy - Trigger Hippy *3. Most Messed Up - Old 97s 4. High Hopes - Bruce Springsteen *5. Salvation Town - Jonny Two Bags
Honorable mentions (too close to call and not quite in top 5): Bob Mould - Beauty and Ruin, Brian Setzer - Rockabilly Riot, Drive By Truckers - English Oceans, Cowboy Mouth - Go.
That's what I listened to from last year. You?

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers / Hypnotic Eye would be the only 2014 release I bought and not bad but on the bottom of the list of my Tom Petty albums. I got three Bob Mould albums but it was his first three albums 1989 Workbook, 1990 Black Sheets of Rain and 1996 Bob Mould. I have been populating my CD's with older albums I had on Vinyl I loved back in the day but are gone now. One of my favorite CD's I got 2014 was one that DYohn posted awhile back - Stephen Stills / Manassas. I wish I could post five top albums released 2014 but I am so busy trying to find old good stuff I don't even look at what is good in new music. Hope to get some good tips here ! Cheers Indy !

Well people certainly have different tastes. To me Hypnotic Eye is his best album since Full Moon Fever...a return to the hard driving rock that put him on the map. YMMV! Don't get me started on old stuff. 2014 was my most prolific CD buying year in my life. That's why I stuck to released in ..... would have been a LONG list of favorites purchased in 2014!

Don't get me started on old stuff. 2014 was my most prolific CD buying year in my life. That's why I stuck to released in ..... would have been a LONG list of favorites purchased in 2014! Wildflowers from 1994 was the last Tom petty album I have before Hypnotic Eye. Wildflowers is my favorite and I have not heard anything he has done after that before Hypnotic Eye. Full Moon Fever,Into the Great Wide Open and Wildflowers were back to back and make 99.9 % of my listening for him. I guess I was hoping for that same experience and Hypnotic Eye is getting great reviews. It made top pick in one list I read recently. A little side story on the Band. Mike Campbell's father owned an Electrical Repair shop at Stantom Plaza on Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins, GA. I used to go there to get things repaired and one day he ask me if I had heard of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, took me in his office and showed me a picture of his son on the wall. He said 'That's my son. He is the guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers". I had never heard of them and did not think much of it. By the time I found out who they were I was long moved away. I always wish I could have seen his father again to tell him how good I thought his son was. Pride was just pouring out of him when he was showing me his picture on the wall.
