Have any of you tried this?
The XPA-2 says it will trigger based on 5V-12V.
What I don't know are what the current requirements are for a 5V trigger on the XPA-2.
I don't want to burn up the USB port on my OPPO, and I was curious if there was a spec for this.
As a product suggestion, I think a great upgrade for the ET-3 would be to include a USB connector input and then convert that to a 12V trigger out for other devices.

I don't have any experience to answer your question. Sounds like a good discussion to have with Emotiva tech support by phone. I'll bet they could give you solid input on your question and would be happy to do it.
Happy researching!

I called them and they suggested that I not try that.
It looks like I would need to wire up a relay and at that point I would probably just go ahead and make it a relay with a 12V output to feed any triggering mechanism.

i had an old USB charger cable (it does charging only no data) for something that i no longer used. i took a trigger cable, cut the end, skinned back the outter insulation to expose the conductors inside, found which one was the center pin on it. i cut the non used end off of the USB charger cable (the mini end) and skinned back the outter insulation to expose the conductors inside of it.
i determined which was the 5v conductor, spliced it to the trigger cables center pin conductor and did the same for the remaining ground conductor of the trigger to that of the USB cable. i placed a small piece of electrical tape to keep the two splices isolated from each other. then another small piece to cover everything. tested it with a ohmeter to make sure there were no shorts or other faults. with both components turned off i connected the USB cable to the oppo and turned it on, i used a voltmeter to see that i had 5v on the trigger cable end. i turned off the oppo, then plugged the trigger into my emotiva upa-200 amp and tested it by turning on the oppo and it triggered the amp on.
i then plugged my other trigger cable from the trigger out of the amp into my XSP-1 pre-amp and tried it again, everything triggers on and off with the oppo. the cable is behind everything, no one see's it and it works perfectly. somewhere on this site, i have a picture of it. works without a hitch.
good luck.

So you did exactly what I was going to do. I would solder and use shrink wrap so it it looked professional. BTW, I've also got an OPPO 83,93 and 105D I just tested my XPA-2 after it was running for a couple hours behind closed doors and had a range of temperatures across the top between 96 and 102 degrees.
