Not sure why Emotiva left the 'affordable' /entry level' market niche for power amps with the UPA series. Seems like Outlaw Audio has really taking advantage of this niche area. As of today 10/17/2015, Outlaw sold out of their mono blocks.

I know this is a fairly old thread but I'll make a comment here.
I would be careful comparing Outlaw and Emotiva amps. They are both internet direct firms but there is one big difference. Note that I like Outlaw Audio as I own of there excellent subs. Emotiva is a factory direct firm as well as internet direct and they design and order their amps directly from the factory and sell directly to the end user. This means they can offer a large price advantage to the buyer. For example, their XPA-5 amp (which I have owned for 6 years) sells at list for $999. The Outlaw fairly comparable amp is the 7500 and sells for $1599. Outlaws amps were and I believe are still rebadged from ATI, a very good amp company. But it is not possible to buy from the factory, rebadge and re-sell at the same best bang for the buck value that Emotiva does, not even close. In this example about 60% higher.
The UPA-500 is no longer available, but I would be careful comparing it to the Outlaw 5000. The model 5000 has more weight and more power, but seems to skimp on some factors. The signal to noise ratio on the 5000 @ 1 watt, A-wt is about 82dB, while on the UPA-500 @ 1 watt, A-wt is about 97dB (both per Audiophile tests). To me that is an impressive difference and speaks to the superior quality of the UPA-500 even though it is a lower output power amp.
Outlaw is very skimpy on listing the SNR on their amps, although the actual SNR for the 7500 and the XPA-5 seem to be about the same excellent value (about 96dB's at 1 watt and 120dB's at full power).
IMO, anyone considering the Outlaw 5000 might consider adding the $400 extra for the far superior Emo XPA-5 or even consider a used XPA-5 as Emotiva has a 5 year transferable warranty. A used UPA-500 also might be an excellent buy for sensitive speakers or a smaller room.

Not bad. I would consider that amp for a small HT system.
This got me thinking...
I may be off my rocker, but I am thinking an eight channel amp might be appropriate or even a six, for those that want a multi amp setup. We really enjoy our XPA-3 running the front three. Having an amp to run the four surrounds and two Atom's would be nice with the six channel version. four surround/four Atoms with the eight.
Actually, the more I think about it an eight channel amp would be awesome. The connection options with the XPA-3 and an eight channel amp would be extensive.Right now I would need to get another XPA-3 and an XPA-5 to get that much flexibility.
