I seem to have a hum or buzz when i drop the needle on my Debut Carbon. ProJect in general has been a bit targeted for this. I have tried several things.
First- made sure all power cables were either isolated or at right angle to signal Sesond- changed interconnect to a emortiva to make sure it was shielded Third- routed cables (signal and power) so they don't run adjacent or ar right angle to each other. They are just separate.
I'm at a loss..
Any other ideas?

Did you ground the turntable to chassis ground?

Did you ground the turntable to chassis ground? If you mean the ground wire between the TT and the Phono-Pre then, yes. If you are talking about something else then no.

I removed the ground wire. The sound got worse, in fact it was present before I dropped the needle. Also, it got really bad when I touched the Tonearm..
Sound like a ground loop?

It could also be a loose connection in the tonearm leads to the cart, or in the solder joints to the rca outs. Here's to hoping it is as simple as a power source issue, all outlets plugged into same breaker?

All plugs plugged into the same wall outlet, but on different power strips. I have 2 power strips one per outlet on same wall plate. This was one of my troubleshooting steps to physically get the TT/Phono wires away from the rest of the system.

If you have CTV, try unplugging the antenna cable.

Forget the phono wires. What you are experiencing is a GROUND LOOP HUM> What type of PHONO PREAMP are you using and what is it plugged in to? Start here. Especially if it is one of those wall transformer boxes at the end of a thin wire. Like a phone charger. They are stinko and if this is the case isolate this and I bet your problem is solved.

If it was a ground loop it would likely be there all the time, not just when you drop the stylus down on the record - unless your turntable has some kind of cutoff switch when the arm is in the rest position (unlikely). It's also possible the cartridge is picking up a magnetic field from the TT's motor (you mentioned in the OP your model was problematic). Can you describe again when the hum starts, and how it changes with the position of the arm? (maybe with the stylus cover in place).

Yeh!,,,,,,,don't do that,,,,,,, I asked him to for troubleshooting, sometimes the ground wire makes things worse (in this case it seems to be doing it's job).

I've had ground loops occur with LP turntables and/or phono pre-amps on several occasions, where they were not there at all before hooking up the turntable and/ot phono pre-amp. Based on that, I'd say it could well be some kind of ground loop

I'm not discounting a ground loop, but adding another possibility to troubleshoot.

Sure, it could be motor hum too, but why would that sound more when he drops the needle?

What phono pre-amp is being used?

I am using a Lounge Audio LCR phono pre. Next step i'll try is skipping that and going direct into the Cronus.
No tv at this location. In fact the only switched mode psu are the TT and my iPod dock. I believe that the phono pre has a small ac power supply.

Ok.. Tried that no joy. I went directly from the TT to the phono stage in the cronus. Same thing.
