Does any body prefer the the big 70's intergradeds to modern separates. I have the urge to get a vintage Pioneer, Sansui, or Marantz.

I say go for it. Seems like there is always a market for them. You could sell for what you paid If you decide not to keep. I had a pioneer SX1050 (long gone) that sounded great. I still have a Marantz 2245 and don't see myself parting with it. That said, I moved on to separates in 1990 and prefer them.

Theory goes the new separates would perform superior to the older gear knowing what we know about Amplifiers, and how much better they are than days past. I love vintage gear allot. Keep in mind support for these is a bit more tricky because of parts, or spares. Not impossible, but sometimes harder.
Performance wise it is tough to beat separates today vs. 30 to 40 old year technology.
By the way my favorites were the old Sansui BA big power amp. Harman Kardon Citation 16. An XPA-200, and XPA-2 will beat both of those older amps handily.

I've owned many vintage amps, receivers and speakers over the years. Just sold my last set of vintage Pioneer speakers last week. Loved that vintage equipment because the components had a different sound. I don't know if it's analog vs. digital or what, but the sound to me anyway was smoother. Whatever that means!!?? I'd buy them, sell them, buy more and sell them. I finally realized that I wasn't listening to them as much anymore because I enjoyed the newer Emotiva equipment as much or better. I do have a small Sansui G2500 receiver that lights up when turned on but no sound. It's for sale but I haven't had any takers at a fair price.

Just out of curiosity, does, the headphone output work? Allot times a resistor network is used from the outputs back to the headphone output. So just curious.

I still have a Technics SU-V90 set up in my garage. Sounds awesome to this day and helps me keep things a little bit more organized with a single package. The thd rating for that integrated was like .0003% or something crazy like that...

I liked the LOOK of 1970's gear - the sound, not so much...
Some of the WORST sounding gear I've ever heard came from the '70s:
Akai integrated amps Sansui integrated amps Technics by Panasonic integrated amps etc.
OTOH, one of the very best integrated amps I've ever heard was also from that period:
The Pioneer SA-5100 or 5200 (don't remember which)
At only10 watts per channel, it didn't have much power, but it sounded like a class A amp in many ways.

I recently purchased a Marantz 2226, some KLH Model 5 speakers, and then a Sansui g-9000db. Best thing I ever did in my audio career. I say go for it. Just make sure you find a good tech for the inevitable repairs.
