I'm confused...what does discontinuing the XPR line have anything to do with your XPR-1s? Just because Krell moved on from their FPB-600 monos, it doesn't mean they aren't one of the best solid state amps of all time! They still look beautiful to me just like your XPR-1s look great to me.

Short and sweet, if you don't have the opportunity or means to get a set now,,,,,,you may never get them. They are something to behold, sound and beauty! That's all,,,,no more ,,,no less. Just that many more that would like to have a set may never get the opportunity. SQ , yeh, Emo will most likely match them but overall looks,,, maybe not. IMHO Oh yeh, one more thing, the XPR-2 and XPR-5 are lookers too!! You should know!

I sure hope they have an equivalent replacement for the XPR-1's. I planned on getting another one down the road for my centre channel.

Well in their defense, I remember when the discontinued the UPA-2's. And they bought the amp back, albeit at the price it was really worth - which did happen to be quite a bit more expensive. But they did bring it back and it was upgraded. So hopefully they'll do the same .I mean the XPA-1 gen 2 upgrade is just fantastic right? I am hoping some more of that. And even though the XPR-1's look pretty nice, they just don't feel like they gel with the rest of the line's looks. Maybe a redesign so it will fit with the upcoming XMR-1? At the end of the day, I think even if the amp lines should look different, they should complement. For instance the DC-1 and airmotivs which look very different from the XPA amps still definitely complement the line.

If they come out with new amps with the McIntosh meters (not McIntosh prices), then as nice as the XPR amps look, the new ones could be a substantial improvement. My feeling is that they will look to cut cost because these XPR amps look like they were too expensive to continue building and selling at current prices, so buy them now could be great advice. Perhaps the new ones will be built in the U.S.A.

Did everyone here miss Novisnick's edit where he stated at the end of his post that, "I was told to check back at the new year about news of a possible replacement." ? I personally doubt the "Reference" line of power amplifiers will be going away for very long. Just my take. I don't read replacement as a similar or improved replacement. I read it as "more cost effective and/or more profitable" lesser replacement. In the back of my mind - maybe not even A/B. I'm probably a little cynical - but I've always felt like the XPR has been a challenge. Either from shipping, low margins, price adjustments, possibly slow sales. Incredible amps - but logistically just more challenging. I PMd Dan a while ago and asked if he'd she'd some light.... But no response. I don't want to see Emotiva lose their "higher end" reference line. I don't think we will ever see a Lonnie "cost is no object" amp - but I always thought of the XPR amps as a pretty good stab at (good) overkill.

This thread is interesting it's like you found out your favorite pet has to be put to sleep. I've never seen so many grown men experiencing a milk and cookie moment. Good thing it's not the XPA-100 mono blocks that are being discontinued. They would have to call out the national guard. Surely all of hell would break loose then. Sorry guys, we'll just have to wait and see what they come up with.

And a sigh from all of those happy enough to have gotten theirs when they did!!

If you are looking to grab an XPR-5....check out Ebay right now!
Someone has an XPA-5 misrepresented as an XPR-5 and asking $1200 for it used. Great deal for the uninformed.
I did contact him to save him some grief later...

View Attachment Edit: I was told to check back at the new year about news of a possible replacement. I'm really surprised no one has made this into a dedicated thread. As it is here it's sort of buried. So watch this.....
