Not an Emotiva advertisement, but a quick note in the "This Just In...." news section, about Emotiva and how we already know they are going more retail. But what got me is how quickly the picture of the old XMC-1 SILVER buttoned SILVER volume knob SILVER trim caught my eye. It looks totally high end awesome! Obviously a Sound & Vision mistake (but not an issue Emotiva themselves feels important to fix since just look at the top of the Emotiva Lounge picture on your screen right now). BUT, I just can't believe how much better I like the old look. So much more classy and high end to me. In comparison the Gen 2 black chrome buttons (cheesy) with the black volume knob and black trim look outright boring. Believe it or not, it was the silver & black look that got me interested in Emotiva in the first place. Pathetic I know, but a hot chic is a hot chic. And for the record I'm an assss man by the way. So maybe there has been a poll before or maybe there hasn't, but just out of curiosity I'm going to make one here anyway. Cheers --- Bonzo

Only 4 voters? Wow, this really is a stupid poll isn't it. Probably would have made more sense a year or so ago when the Gen 2 stuff came out. I wouldn't be asking now if the incorrect Sound & Vision picture hadn't caught my eye and made me remember how much I like the old look better.

I think often when you look at something for a while, something different looks better. I like the Gen 2 look because generally it's more subtle, and matches other gear better. I don't find the black buttons cheesy, but rather like them. As for stupid poll? I'll say I appreciate your humor.

I'm a bit on the fence with this one. I do love the way the G2 gear looks with the black on black styling. That said, I am not a huge fan of the way it looks next to all of my G1 gear. An XSP-1, XPA-2, and 3 XPA-1L amps. 5 to 1, regardless of preferred style the XMC is the odd one out. it isn't a deal breaker obviously, but it does nag me a little all the same.
First world problems, right folks?

My XPA-5 and XPA-2 are both Gen1 with the silver trim, what I did is replace the silver screws with black ones and IMO it looks sweet, makes the silver trim stand out more and I really don't like the shiny silver screws with the matte silver trim, just my .02

I would just go one step farther and get the silver trim for the XMC-1 then do the same with the screws. Then it would be a 9.5. (Docking 1/2 point because of the black buttons on the XMC-1 which unfortunately can't be changed without a major undertaking).

I think the silver stands out better and it does look gorgeous. The gen 2 has a more sexy look and I like both.

For full disclosure, it must be said that I made myself my own custom Salamander style TV stand and equipment rack last year, and I used black wood with silver rails. I'd show a picture but I'm not 100% done yet or I would. But needless to say, I gravitate towards the silver & black look.

I have thought about ordering the silver trim but being in Canada and with the exchange rate, taxes, shipping, and god knows what other fees I would be looking around $60 shipped to my door which is a lot considering the retail price of $20 hahaha

Yeah no kidding. Maybe wait for the Fall/Winter sale or until you buy something else to help with the charges. Or, move to the U.S.

Okay, here is a picture of the back of the equipment rack during the remodeling process just to show the silver rails and black wood.

Like I said it's not 100% done yet.

I like the black and silver personally, I think it gives you better ways to match other components. There are a lot of speakers and turntables, etc., that have silver on them. My setup for instance utilizes a sliver Technics SL1200, so my gen 1 gear matches it well, it helps to pull everything together. But, that's just me; aesthetics are a big consideration for me because I like things to be "matchy matchy." Black on black is cool in some instances, but with audio gear it feels too dark to me, there's nothing really going on with it.
