My rack is a repurposed/reconditioned 1970s, very solid wood, cabinet with a glass door in front, open in the back. Built into the wall under a staircase - in the basement, so open behind, well ventilated and fairly cool in that area.
My XPA-3 is currently on the bottom of the rack. Have 2 XPA-100's on the way (hooray!).
Can (should) I stack the XPA-100's directly on top of the XPA-3? Or should I put the XPA-100's together on a shelf above the XPA-3 (with a little breathing space from the top of the XPA-3 to the shelf)?
Should I even stack the XPA-100's, or should they all have their own shelves?
Space is at a premium (as it is I will likely have to remove something from the rack, most likely the little-used 5-disc CD player), so I would like to stack whenever possible, but not at the risk of overheating.

The two XPA-100's I owned a few months back ran really cool, having there own shelf might be a better option than directly on the XPA-3 but having two of them stacked will be no issue Chad

I agree!
Mine run cool also, but I don't have them stacked for two reasons, I don't have clearance in my equipment stand to stack two of them on top of each other, and it's easier to trouble shoot if one is on the left and the others on the right.

Thanks. I guess I should also consider whether separate shelves might be better simply due to the weight of the XPA-100's - not bad on their own, but not sure if 2 of them on a single shelf might be too much weight.

Separation is best but stacking is possible. I think Emotiva mentioned they designed their products to handle stacking four units.

I would probably not stack them. I picked up a pair at the end of the summer sale and briefly tried stacking them (2 minutes). The cases are unfortunately not braced so that the feet of the one on top does not deflect (bend) the top of the one on the bottom. I quickly removed the top one and separated them, no harm done. But if left that way for a while, I expect that the case on the lower unit would permanently become warped.
Very happy with the amps!
