Anybody using the Control Freaks as a gain control on amps that have no gain control ? Specifically used in a 2 channel or 3 channel stereo system in conjunction with a preamp ?
The reason im asking & thinking of getting a few is i recently rediscovered some special 3 channel LP's ive had stashed away for 30 yrs , the center of the 3 channel pressings is a blended L & R signal & the only preamp i know of thats set up for these pressings is the very old Mcintosh C-26 preamp & i do not want to use one , we have way too much vintage gear allready .
I'd like to use a JM Labs center speaker i have left over from our HT & incorporate it into my Emotiva rig using a single XPR-1 monoblock , so has anybody used them in tandem with their dedicated 2 channel preamp as gain for their amps ? If so how did they work out ?

That is what I will be doing with it. I am setting up a 2.1 channel setup in my office with an XPA-200 running the bookshelf speakers and a pair of XPA-100s running two DIY dual opposed 8 inch sealed subs. I have the balanced Control Freak and will use this in between the preamp and the XPA-100s to level match the subs with the bookshelf speakers.

The Control Freak does stereo(2 Channels) so you would only need one for a stereo setup. Chad That is what I will be doing with it.
