Looking to get monoblocks soon. What are some suggestions for affordable amp floor stands? Is it better to buy a pair or DIY? What should I expect for differences in material? I have carpeted floors, so I was looking at something like the Sanus below. Thoughts and other suggestions?

What's your take on the glass as far as maintenance and vibration control? I've always shied away from glass myself after having a TV stand with glass shelves that seemed like it would collect dust to no end. Do you find them getting dirty often?

I use the Sanus & like it. If you've got deep-pile carpet, then yes, I recommend a formal stand (otherwise the carpet can interfere with ventilation). But if you have a short-nap carpet, I've just used hockey pucks - They worked fine.

Dust is going to accumulate no matter what stand you use. It is no worse or better than anything else I have in the living room. I like the look of the stands as it matches my console which is glass with the silver poles. I have short height carpet over concrete slab. I use the spikes so it goes through the carpet and sit on top of the concrete. With the amps weighing 76 lbs a piece I do not notice or feel any vibration when in operation. I cant comment on clear glass as ive never used clear but black glass is a nightmare keeping free of fingerprints & dust , one thing i can say for sure is the recommendation for VTI amp stands is spot on , we've bought over a dozen different products from VTI dealers on Audiogon & all of them are as good as much more expensive racks , the points do an excellent job of vibration control & the racks are fillable , we used lead shot in our 4 shelf VTI rack with our Mcintosh TT on the top , we never had any vibration issues but for good measure we added an isolation platform under just the TT, VTI stuff can also take the weight of very heavy gear with no sag . We have our Emotiva XPR-1's sitting on isolation points directly on the floor but the Mcintosh Mc-1201's in our HT sit on the VTI 404 ( i think thats the model # ) amp stands which leaves just enough room where we can use a vaccume attachment to clean under them ,cloth covers are a good way to protect from dust & we keep our turn tables covered at all times .

Have a pair of XPR-1 Monoblocks on two VPI-404BL-01's. I didn't get the glass ones due to dust. They are really well built and study and I am very impressed with them overall for the money.

Go to Home Depot , buy 4-6 floor tiles and you have a amp stand. Cost less than 8 bucks.

One thing I did that did not cost a lot was to go to a Granite or Marble company that actually cuts their own stone. Ask about "scrap" pieces they have just laying around. I was able to get 2 very nice pieces cut for me for less than 40 dollars. Attach some feet to the bottom of them and you have a really nice, heavy stand. Just my 2 cents.

16" X 16" garden stepping stones worked for me. $12.00 total and you can't see them See the base just under the amp? Keeps it cool too, there are some grooves in the stone as well.

There's a guy here who post a few items for sale, and he had the most beautiful wood stands underneath his gear, maybe on his amps too. I asked him, and he posted Cutting Boards, beautiful thick wood slabs of finished delights, I think he did some work on them but it so different from what I've seen in the pass. I would suggest to look at wholesalers for cutting boards and such, once I get home I'll look for his post with the link.
