I was at my dealers and he uses Amarra software for his mac and he told me he uses another software to transcode his digital/music so that he isn't constantly opening the music file on his computer and spinning up the hard drive. I did some looking around and a Digital Music Server called Arrender 100XL, which uses a SSD and a 2-6tb depending on model together so that the music on the main hard drive doesn't spin up introducing noise from the spinning disc. Is there something available like this or a method available for PC? The Arrender is over $3000 and Amarra Software for the package he has is $650, so for all of you PC guys, myself included is there a solution? I'm using a pc and a Marantz NA-7004 streamer, connected through a Lan Cable and my music is WAV Loseless, my files are 548 to 650 mb, full resolution rips using EAC. Would I have to created a server like Freenas? I'm ready for this as I have two 5tb brand new hard drives and a Samsung Evo 250mb ssd. Thanks, looking for the best quality I can get and I'm using my Audio Research DAC 8 and I have a Yamaha CDS-2100 with a ESS SABRE DAC.

So I understand, the noise it prevents is the mechanical noise you might hear in the room, not any electronic noise that might be introduced into the signal?
