I just replaced my dad's UMC-1 with a UMC-200, and he couldn't be happier with the sound. He's also loving the new Apple TV I got him for Christmas.
I was hoping the HDMI-CEC would make everything a breeze so he could turn everything on with his Apple TV remote, change the volume with it, etc. It does not appear to be working however. Not a huge problem - the Apple TV makes programming IR volume control a breeze, but he still needs the Emo remote to turn things on and off.
I know that the entire industry has had problems standardizing HDMI-CEC over the last couple of hardware generations, but I am curious, have people found some HDMI-CEC devices that work for turning the UMC on/off, changing volume, etc.? Any particular setup tips?

Is CEC also turned on in the display?
and no, this is hit or miss depending on the combination of your HDMI chain.
I use a harmony remote to make things easier myself and turn off CEC.

I agree about hit or miss and I went the Harmony remote route a few years ago and am convinced it's the most cost effective solution.
The Harmony 650 can often be found for $35 refurbished on eBay.

In my all 2015 home theater stack at my house (Marantz NR1606 receiver, Vizio 4K M-Series TV, new AppleTV), HDMI-CEC works like a dream. 98% of the time I only use my AppleTV remote now. HDMI-CEC had a bumpy past but I think it's looking up in new devices!
I guess I'll pull out good ol' Harmony remote for my dad's system.

If all the hardware is the same vintage then CEC mostly works, but mixing generations is frequently a fail.
Happy New Year Gary

I cut the cord a year and a half ago, and went with the fire TV from amazon. I couldn't be happier! I set all my cec settings to off. I know I have a large collection of remotes, but I have my sanity.I can't stand one thing turning something else off and then you need to do the hokey pokey to turn the right thing back on to watch TV. I love the fire TV for its music program, if you have amazon prime and sign up for prime music ( its free with prime), they give you access to a boat load of music. I buy my music from them as well, so the entirety of my music is right there at my finger tips. The music quility seems to be the same as playing CD. 48kHz. Oh, amazon even throws in movies and TV shows for free with that prime membership. My umc200 plays nice with the fire tv. I guess one could buy one of those lord of the ring remotes and claim one remote to rule them all, but for the price, I can find other things to upgrade. At least for now sooner or later I may run out of things to upgrade. Right!!!
