Look at Legacy. You might even be able to score some Wilson Watt Puppies for that cash. I wouldn't buy any wilsons under the Alexia. They may cost a lot but they just don't have the magic.

Fair statement and most likely accurate. The Alexia and Alexandria are wonderful speakers but cost as much as some houses.

Changing speakers is MUCH more fun than changing your base equipment. Amen, brother!

Lots of choices. It will be a fun journey.
My recommendations would be a variety of speakers that have a variety of prices. These are speaker BRANDS that I have heard and depending on the model I walked away stimulated. Some I have purchased thru the years. B&W....people love them or hate them...I have the 803diamonds so you know right off the bat where I stand. Dynaudio...remarkable sounding speaks starting with the old Genesis model...impressive monitor. Avance...awesome KEF...another winner JBL...rock your socks off! Klispch...another rocker Canton...never heard them but all reviews are highly rated Magna Plannars...another speaker I never audition but have heard good things about them from owners SALK...well made, strong design, great sound, crisp and clear and affordable with a thirty day free trial TEKTON...never had a chance to listen but people from the EMO forum are very pleased with there performance (30 day free trial) FUNK...excellent design, inside and out (30 day trial)
Depending on the music genre you listen too all of these speakers are winners...remember that the music you play makes a difference. EXAMPLE... Your would not play classical thru JBL's
Happy Hunting and keep us up to date.

Personally with a $9k budget I would let Klipsch and JBL go. They do okay but not $9k budget good. My personal opinion of course

I directly comparred the silver to gold the gold tweeteris so much betterthan the silverit is not even funny. Silvers willmae great HT speakers, but Golds and Platinum are much more refined Thank you so much for that! I figured that would be the case The only thing about the silver is the weak center which is okay SO many fantastic speakers out there...

I would go with Emotiva XPR2 Amp $1799 Emotiva XSP-1 Pre $999 Oppo BDP 105 D BluRay $1319 External 3T hard drives two $300
That leaves 5 Grand for speakers. I would audition B&W CM Series KEF Canton Magnapan Revel Dynaudio Sonus Faber Monitor Audio Vandersteen
Or hell budget 5K on some exotic horn loaded speaker/3K on a 10 watt tube amp and 1K on a passive tube pre

Some other speakers: Salk If you have a large room: Philharmonic speakers. From the guy who designed the Salks! Tekton Enzo XXL Tekton OB Sigma
And I'm surprised that LEGACY audio speakers have not come up!! Also the creme de la creme (large room required as they need to be away from walls Linkwitz LX521. from the legendary Linkwitz! However you have to budget for the amps. And note it uses a digital cross over.

The only downside about some of the really good speakers, i'll never be able to audition them im kinda of stock with the more mainstream in terms of auditions (B&W, paradigm, martin, klipsch, etc)

Its difficult, if not impossible, to recommend speakers as we all have different ears/tastes. What sounds good to me may not sound good to you. I suggest you go and listen and remember to bring music with you that you know and see if its possible to select gear as close to what you have.

I can't help myself and must recommend Vandersteen. Yes, they are ugly and very under the radar but they offer so much for the price. I think they image and have the speed of ribbon/planar speakers but with all the low end control and muscle that good conventional speakers offer.
Another option is upcoming products from ELAC. If you can wait a year, I predict Andrew Jones and his partners in crime will announce a third line of speakers (we now have the Debut and soon-to-be-released line with coincident drivers).

It knocks me unconscious the fact noone in this thread has said *anything* about room acoustic treatments.

Your not the first person I have heard make those comments, which is very promising.

I would recommend spending at least 80% of your budget on the speakers and as little at possible on cables. Monoprice should be more than enough for the cables. Room treatments can come later over time. Cheap CDP to DC1- to amp is more than enough to produce a good signal to some nice speakers.

Where are you located just in case someone lives close by and might potentially have a speaker that interests you and would welcome you tho his/her home to take a listen. I'm located in South Central Pennsylvania Lehigh Valley PA here. Feel free to stop by anytime to check out some different types of speakers. I have Legacy, Paradigm and Polk sitting here in 2 different rooms as well as a couple different pre/pros and amps. I'm just over an hour from Harrisburg. Member lehighvalleyjeff lives 15 minutes away and has a pretty good variety of equipment as well. He and I get together quite a bit to do 2 channel listening as well as movies. Shoot me a pm if interested. Scott
